practiceing the drums vs fittness


this has been bothering me how well does playing the drums benifit your fittness like i like to work out. Run and lift wieghts but i feel like iam wasting time doing all that becuse i could probally just play the drums but it does'nt do any thing for my body any coments on that?

I'm sure playing drums has some aerobic benifit, and to a lesser degree builds some strengh. I guess it would depend on your fitness goals, but I don't think drum playing would give you the same health benefits as say jogging for the same amount of time. You definately wont build muscle to the same degree as a weight training session would. I would say play drums, and persue a moderate exercise routine.

Depends how hard you play...playin lay back jazz or basic rock beats don't do crap. Add in some double bass(depending if you play heel up or down) you'll build your legs. Playing fast/moving around on different cymbals on running through the toms'll build upper body and hand eye coordination. Iono, drums = aerobic...weights(dpending on the scale) = muscle building. Really, they're 2 different types of workouts and not all to comparable.

PLAY GRIND CORE

Seriously, blast beats really workout your forearms if done correctly (with your fingers and wrists) and double bass really works your shin muscles, ankles, and your calves... If your technical on cymbals it works your shoulders, back muscles, and arms too... And if you sit up straight that works out your lower back, and if you play double bass fast, you lift your legs up more and that works your thighs....

Works for me.

I usually get a nice sweat going. Drumming is the only exercise I get. Unless working your fingers over a PS3 controller counts.

ya if u work hard enough and really get into it and play for a long enough time i would think you would be working out on your drums. its not as good as really working out but it still works

Ya ive had days where ill go to my drums and play for about three to four hours of double bass beats and when I go to walk back up the stairs my legs feel like I had been working out. (more specifically my thighs)

After a three or four hour band practice, I usually wake up in the middle of the night with leg cramps. I must be getting old.

The number one cause of muscle cramps is dehydration. Drink more water and see if the cramping stops.

I usually get pretty parched during practice. Maybe I'll bring a big jug 'o water next time.
