Re: warming up

I dunno. I would think a good long warm-up would be more beneficial than a quick one, just for your muscles alone.
After all drumming is such a physical activity, especially if you are going to be alot of heavy drumming. But i am not an expert, so I cannot give you a informed opinion on that.

I think it is what ever works for you.
Some days I do 15 minutes some days I do 30
It all depends how I feel before I start if I feel stiff I will go for longer.

Talking Re: warming up

Apart from the physical necessity to warm up, just to warm the muscels up as to avoid injurie, there is also the mental side which enables us to get in "the groove"
That is why I always try to warm up with some music on the headphones!

It is also the reason that I prefer practicing with the band than on my own, if possible at all.

Happy drumming&Cheers,

Harry

Re: warming up

You guys mean before shows/performances right...if I'm practicin by myself I never "warm up"...rarely do when I practice with other people, just jump on and go...perf. on teh other hand I stretch and go through the set a bit, but that's bout it really.

Smile Re: warming up

Yes, in my case this is all prior to an actual gig/performance, which sometimes is not possible because the "rulers" will not allow you to make "all that noise".
In that case I practice on my wonderful Promark practice pad. (Octa Pad with snare sound) It sure does get the wrists warmed up!

Happy drumming, cheers,

Harry

Re: warming up

For one, I don't warm up at all when i'm just jamming or practicing, but before a gig, first do like a couple minuets of stretching out the wrists. Then, after you get you drums set up, jam for a minuet, again to get warm. And before you go on, just practice on your drum pad. so in all you should only warm up for 20 min. or so but that doesn't mean your a bad drummer.

Re: warming up

It usually takes me about fifteen or twenty minutes to really get in the groove and feel the music flow through me! After that it is all just flowing out like water
