Anyone out there sing backup and play drums in bands. I've been playing drums for a number of years and found myself in a situation that calls for me to sing. I play in a 3 piece and my songwriter wrote a number of harmonies for our new record and I'm a little worried about the vocals (or the lack of) when we play these new songs live.

So I'm looking for any suggestions or tips. I think drumming and singing can be physically draining. So I thought I would throw this up here and see what you guys thought.

Well for one thing singing and drumming at the same time is hard. Not necessarily the singing part (because i'm an o.k. singer) but because singers have could sing slower, or faster, than the beat. And when I sang, i went off beat (Thats why our guitarist sings).

But that was when i just started drumming. Our song writer did the same thing and i was forced to sing harmonics and all i have to say is don't think about it and it you are already on beat then it should be no problem.

I dont sing while the actual song is being played in performance, but to get my drum groove really solid and fitting in a song I will usually sing the melody over and over again- out loud while playing my part.
