Just a quick question about what is proper technique on this. I was listening to it today, and noticed it goes X-xx on the high hat. Or duh, dudu before going to the snare hit. (Sorry if I'm explaining this badly)

I was just wondering, for the 2nd 16th note (Which I believe it is) is it proper to bring my left hand up to hit the high hat, and then use my right hand to strike the snair. Or should I go from the 8th notes to the 16ths staying on my right hand, just speeding up for that part.

Another example would be in "maps" by the yeah yeah yeahs. Its solid 8th nots on the high hat and the bass drum (snare hits on 2 and 4 I believe) but occasionally there is set up triplets. I normally bring my left hand over for the middle hit (HH hit in between both bass hits and the normal 8th hi hat hits)

Is this the correct way to go about this?

Tell me if I've got this wrong but,

To clarify
HiHats play - 1 + a
and you want to know if you should bring your left hand up on the 'a'?
You can look at it this way; when you play "1 + a" with just your right hand the pattern may turn out to have a more swinging sort of feel, but, when the left hand is brought up on the 'a' it will naturally unless, intentionally altered, have a straighter feel.

Another idea; If three sixteenths in a row is to much, try '1 + a" but on 2 where the snare drum is usually placed, drop that right hand out, then pick it back up on the + of 2.

So it really depends on the tempo that you can physically handle the pattern at, or simply an easier way to get a feel across.

The only way i can explaain it is like 1-2-3 pause then 1-2-3 and hit the snare on 3. thats for hotel california.
