Any thoughts on this...

I've been looking for a practice pad of some sort that I can take with me to work (12hr night shifts) and work on my rudiments. I've also been looking for a good metronome. I found this :

Buy Beatnik Rhythmic Analyzer online at Musician's Friend

Does anyone have experience with this product? Can it be used as just a metronome?

Because I really don't have the room/ability to carry a stand in to work with me. With this I could save space, use it as a practice pad, as a trainer and as a metronome (I think, I'm still researching that part of it). That would save me from having to get a normal practice pad/stand (around $50-$75) for both and a good metronome ($50-$125).

At least for a quick cheap pad = computer mouse pad.

You can roll it up and put it away
It doesn't take much space
gives an OK feel
can mold around not so flat surfaces
very cheap

This looks like good product for what you need. I'm thinking of checking it out for my daughter. I'll have to see if they have it at a local shop to test drive it.

It seems as though if you don't turn it on you can use it just as a pad.

Here's the users guide for it, found it online. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info Hitman. Let me know how it turns out for you. It'll be a few weeks before I can get my hands on one, so if you check one out in person, let me know what you think about it.

Well as promised I went to Guitar Center yesterday with my daughter and checked this thing out.

Long story short, it's really pretty good. But for $250.00 totally not in our budget and not worth it. Has a good feel and it's a "computer" so it's time is dead balls on. It has quite a few cool features and I guess if the "feel" of the pad itself was okay, a bit mushy but had nice rebound to it.

Again I think it's cool for some one like you who doesn't want to lug around a pad and a metromome etc. The price is what kills it.
HTH.
ETA ~ It was a Roland hence the hefty price tag.

Re: Any thoughts on this...

Check out OZ Drumpads I think it may be just what your looking for. You can attach it to a stand, or strap it on your leg. Its fair priced, and whats funny is I was lookning at these when I started, but I'm taking lessons from the guy who came up with them now. I came over for a lesson one day and he was putting some of the wood bases together. They're hand made, and good quality. I'm not trying to push them for the guy, I think their really cool and will be buying one off him soon.

I don't know if their any good but Ive thought of getting one of those ear piece metronomes that looks like a bluetooth headset. Those suit my needs for being able to use them during times at work.

Yeah, I think I saw some of those on there too, but it didn't get good reviews if I remember correctly.

Edit: My mistake, the Roland has great reviews. I just don't know if it's worth $100 more...
