Cool One Mic drum test

Hello everybody there is a guy on youtube were apparently you mic your whole drum set with one mic using a AKG C2000B large-diaphragm condenser microphone and it actually sounds very good. Has any body ever tried this besides this guy. I want a 2nd opinion to validate me trying this thanks guys. Hope to hear you soon.........

Sounds good, if you like it then do it but the only disdvantage I know of is that if you only use one mic then you can not have a stereo mix of the drums.

Re: One Mic drum test

It sounds OK, but it could be better. With this set up the mix is very cymbal heavy, the bass although you can hear it doesn't come through as much as I would like. The big disadvantage I see with one mike is you have to try to place it where it will pick up all drums and cymbals equally almost imposible to do. You can get good mono-recordings with a single condenser, but the more mikes you have the more options in regards to mixing, and balancing the sound.

Re: One Mic drum test

I run four mics into a multimix...
I have a six piece kit with five cymbals.
At times I feel like it works great... and then other times I really feel like it lacks.

One mic could work for a general recording... but you really miss out on a lot by not having multiple mics.
