Drumstick tips :(

so yeah.. skinslapper has nylon bullets flying at fans
I have wood chips all over my floor... seriously.

I played a upbeat rock song for another cyberjammin friend and chipped off
a good 1/3 of the tip in like 40 min of playing. Brand new Thomas Lang sticks... These suckers almost classify as marching sticks and I am thrashing through the tips quicker and quicker.

So I am thinking of going the opposite way and getting shorter sticks... IDK at this point. I think I am gonna just buy bulk cheap sticks and cut my losses. They will probably last longer.

I have moved on to vater's maple blazers. Wooden tip, thicker, lighter. The guy at the store says the maple tends not to chip, but rather wears down over time. So far so good.

yup, for wood tips I have to recommend vaters also If you chip teh tips on those...look over how your holding the sticks and hitting cymbals cause over 2 weeks on one pair of sticks and not tip chip.

Re: Drumstick tips :(

I think I will try the maple Vaters... I hold the sticks pretty loose... but I am a pretty heavy hitter as well. I flop around from moeller, to push pull, etc... I always end up with the butt end of the stick in my hand as well. It just seems to be the most comfortable spot casue the rebound is less. I feel at times if I lighten up my hitting then I am not getting the same feel I am looking for in the song. I appreciate the advise... I have never had anyone who has watched me play comment on how to improve my sticking. Wish they would though.

Re: Drumstick tips :(

yea, I usually end up having teh butt of the stick in my palm...regardless the stick length, I like the bounce more and I can control it a lil better in the palm. But when I roll I hold them "properly".
Yea, I'v eplayed snare in my schools drumline for 2 yrs so sticking is perty big. First thing you look at when someone new is on the line/trying out is how they're holding the sticks really. There's always the preset way and then you begin to develop your own grip.

:P just seen your avy...does look like you crank on em.

Hey, Shazaam--

I use "Ahead" sticks. They are virtually indestructible and are guaranteed for life. You can even replace the tips and grips.

They are a bit pricey--$35.00 per pair, but they last FOREVER!

Re: Drumstick tips :(

If you're talking these...
Buy Ahead Drumsticks online at Musician's Friend
or the sig versions, yea I've used them, bought jordisons pair...yea, they lasted a long time I'm not gonna lie. But, the metal(whatever kind it is) that's used as the inside cracked lol, seriously it split in half :S , granted that was 3-4 years after I got them but yea they aren't indestructible. And for those, you sortof have to play differently than you do with wood sticks cause they're balanced different, harder tips...harder stick in general and you can easily damage your equipment with them which sucks.
