Home recording with drums - Audacity

Well I bought an Alesis Multimix Firewire 8 a couple four years back.

It only had four XLR inputs but that was fine with the Shure 4 pack drum mics. Well Cubase LE was the recording software which came with it. Cubase was such a pain working with the multimix. I would spend much more time setting up everything to record than I would recording.

My solution ended up being this great free program Audacity. I have nothing but love for this program.

My multimix works perfectly with this program and all the problems I had with the multimix and cubase have faded.

It really is a great program with some nice links to plug-ins...

I have a firewire 8 as well and run it through logic express. I totally recommend any drummer wanting to record to pick one of these up. I took a quick look at the Cubase that came with it a said "Yuck". What a crap program. Audacity is totally bad ass. Good pick.

I use Audacity too along with Adobe Audition and Cakewalk Sonar. I must admit that freeware program is really good and user friendly but it would be great if there's more plug-ins. In Adobe Audition there's some really nice effects & preset.

I use Sonar with the Firepod, I love it really easy to use.

I've been using an old version of cubase with my Staudio dsp2000. I have had some difficulties with, but I thought audacity had some major buggs. Perhaps I'll need to have another look at it.

Well I like the simplicity and some of the plug-ins are nice.
I record a song in one shot... mistakes and all. I really like songs to sound raw like that.
I hate starting and stopping and editing too much. Really, If I can't get through the song then
I shouldn't be playing it.

OK, I'm old......

I have a Tascam 4 track cassette 16 channel mixer with a Nanoverb unit.
Any suggestions on an inexpensive (now thats a word of the day) way to convert to digital?

Do you have a way to plug the audio into your computer via the RCA jacks? If not I'd suggest getting a nice audio card like an EMU 0404 Buy E-Mu 0404 PCI Digital Audio Recording System online at Musician's Friend

With that you could record then send your audio straight in.

you could probably get away with using creative labs style of sound card... cept for audio recordings I'd advise against it. Bang for the buck I'd go with the EMU card. I have heard plenty of reviews that it is a nice card. Check your computer innards before buying it as well... you want to have room on the motherboard before buying it.
