Finally found a band

Well that whole recording studio deal fizzled out. I was expecting to be doing work
there but I guess the studio isn't doing so hot. Then I had to leave one band
because they could never get off their feet and the guitarist kept attacking my
personal beliefs in very passive aggressive ways. Then I tried out for
another band who had about 12 drummer responses... I guess distance was a
major factor for not selecting me. Then last night comes...
I try out for a new band... The guitarist has some real talent, sings good, wants
to go play out and all. We spend about two hours jamming different things. He
walked away smiling and I am going to meet the bass player tonight and jam with
both of them.
It is looking good. We had a nice vibe playing that night

Feel free to check out the site.. the online home of lackluster
I plan on memorizing as much music as I can for a gig they have on the 20th of Dec.

I dig this song from them http://www.lacklusterband.com/borrow...effortdemo.mp3

drums sound really up beat for the vox in that song...unless it's just the way the vox were recorded cause that could change after a little studio magic

I see where he wants this to go... the bass is very hard to hear if not non-existent.
I agree a little studio magic would greatly help this one. I have my own ideas for
the song if they ask for my input. Hopefully I will be recording and playing out with
them soon.

I've got a good friend cross the Atlantic that is doing stuff similiar to this.

Thanks for listening.

Hi CJDG,
I agree that a little studio magic could sweeten the sound, for demo purposes to secure bookings etc..but it would be very easy to 'over tweak' things and as a result, the live performance would be slightly different to what is on the demo.

Congratulations on the new band, I hope it all works out well.
Let us know how it goes, good luck.

Re: Finally found a band

Well, Last night was a blast.
These guys have some real talent... and the new material they are working on sounds great.
I left with a CD of 8 songs they would like me to work on... about 45 min worth of music.

I should have it memorized by next Sunday. I have a 45 min drive to work each day so this
gives me plenty of opportunity to memorize the tracks. I don't enjoy charts... I have enough
experience in music theory that memorization comes much faster.

Thanks for the kind words guys.

Re: Finally found a band

First gig is coming up on the 20th of December.
I have about four songs down pat... the rest are coming slowly.
They are tweaking as we go along...

If I get some audio of me playing that I can share I will pass it along.
Have a great Sunday all.

Yes, please do CJ. We'd all love to hear it. What's the format of the gig? Is your band going to be one of many in a showcase or are you carrying the night by yourself? And what kind of a venue are you playing in? The last time I gigged in a regular band was many years ago. I'm wondering what the scene is like now (assuming it's probably similar in Canada and the US).

Re: Finally found a band

I think we are playing alone that night. Not sure yet. Details are a little light as of yet. I've been
focusing on memorization of the music. The place we are playing at is called Bernie's... a local
pub near Ohio State University. Last time I played out it was in Hawaii a few years back. Most
of what I did was Open Mic nights... I worked in the Navy on Submarines which made it hard
to be in a band.

Re: Finally found a band

Something I did back in march... should be able to D/L it though.

http://www.garageband.com/mp3cat/.CZ..._from_CJDG.mp3

1st song is a cover... and the second has the drums really cranked loud for clarity.
I forgot these were there. Should be fun for a listen.

Thanks for that. I liked it a lot. Very strong drum sound and solid playing. What was the band's name? It sounded like it had commercial appeal -- great female vocalist.
