So in here we post our questions....

So, once again hello all

Imagine a dude, sitting in front of a drum set (normal things, not something too exquisite), holding a pair of drumsticks and creating the most beautiful....noise pollution you've ever heard :P

Yeah I see in your mind's eye you already know who that is :P

To be totally honest my first question would be like: "WT* I'm doing here?!" :P, however I thought I should ask about things that trouble me the way I saw them.

1. Synchronization: I can't seem to get my hands and feet work in accordance and even if I manage to do that I'm too untrained and either the hands of the feet ache :P By asking around some friends I picked up there is some kind of exercise to improve your synchronization. Any leads to that?

2. Even though I find it somewhat easy to keep a steady pulse (or maybe rhythm?) after a while I lose it again (while being here then next 2 tries of the drum beats). Maybe that needs more exercise?

3. This is my first time that I actually tried some music actively than just listening to it and I'm not sure I know all the "music" words you people can use so fire away gently. I also don't know the names of the drums one by one neither in English nor Greek :P

I'll post a pic of me set later on in case it'll help you explain things easier to me, also I hope I'm not too much of a pain for a newbie

Thx in advance

Re: So in here we post our questions....

Wow. Ok--first thing to do is figure out what you're playing ON...

This may sound like I'm talking down to you-- I assure you I'm not-- I am assuming you are starting from scratch so here is starter information:

You have a big drum with a pedal on it=KICK or BASS drum.
The drum with wires on the botom--yes the wires are on the bottom not top= SNARE drum

Assuming you have a standard 5 piece set up, you probably have some TOM-TOMS. The smallest is usually called a RACK TOM and most would call TOM 1. The next larger RACK TOM is TOM 2. Last but not least you might have a larger Tom with legs on it=FLOOR TOM or TOM 3.

Now you have some cymbals--the one that has a pedal stand and 2 cymbals together is called a HI HAT. The largest cymbal you might have (around 20-22 inches) is usually the RIDE cymbal-used much the same way as a hi-hat to keep time and is struck mostly with the tip of the stick on Bow of the cymbal (between the middle bell area and the edge). The mid-sized cymbals, usually 14-18" in diameter are called CRASH cymbals and are struck usually with the shoulder (area of the drumstick that widens away from the tip) of the stick on the edge to produce a bright accent sound.

Whew. Independence is next--here is a link to another thread I posted in that might help:

Any tips for a new drummer?

Good luck and let us know if you need more info.

Many many thanks for the reply, admittedly I now know the names of the drums

My set is a very starter one. Bass drum - Snare - Tom1 and Tom2 - Floor Tom - Hihat and the large Ride one.

I feel I'm getting somewhere Once again thx a lot for the answer
