double pedal off balance

I just bought a double pedal last week, the DW7002 and I'm finding it very hard to keep balance and play with both feet raised off the pedals. I guess I'm used to keeping my feet firmly on the hi-hat and bass pedals. I feel like I have to lean back to keep my balance. I thought maybe it's my drum chair because it's cheap and tips forward alittle when I raise my feet. How do you balance with both feet off the pedals and also feeling comfortable doing it?
Thanks.
Greg

Re: double pedal off balance

Its probably the chair like u said. I have a normal chair and i feel fine when im drumming. U have to be stable while ur sitting down and not worry about balance at all. try using a strong plastic chair. That could work.. also make sure u can reach any part of ur kit comfortably. Make sure the distances for ur limbs to reach the kit are equal, and sit at a good angle so that ur facing the drums properly, dont face any specific part of the drums at too big an angle, make sure its all equal

Yeah the chair sounds like an issue. Also the height that you sit can a factor. Make sure your seat is raised enought that your thighs are slightly sloping towards the drumkit. This will put more pressure on our butt to hold you steady and not your feet.

If you plant your feet to the down position an use your heels for action you can get a relaxed and endured style. It sounds weird but try it.

Re: double pedal off balance

Many will disagree with me but what's wrong with learning to play double bass with your heels down? I've only been learning for a few months and my left foot is f...ing fast, thank you very much. I feel stable on my throne, I can get speed and dynamics, I can play a pretty fast double stroke roll with my feet and I'm picking up other patterns quite quickly.

I haven't tested my endurance by playing any long, fast metal songs. But I'm guessing the heel up technique or variations of it could cause problems with lower back pain (I'm an old guy so that matters!).

yea, for speed i play heel down and keep steady power. Left foot is getting up to par with my right but is still weird. Just steady/powerful 8ths I play heel up or somethin of the like.

I'm surprised. I thought most of you advocated heels up for speed.

My left foot is still weird too. I like that way of describing it. It's not as comfortable as I want. The same goes for left hand ride patterns. I'm aiming for total independence.
