Question Where should I play??

Hey guys,
I was just wondering, my new band is finding a place to play and i was wondering
What kind of venue (Music festivals, Bars, eateries, etc.) should I play in??
Maybe if you guys could give me the kind of places you guys played at first with your bands.

Re: Where should I play??

isn't there a local music scene in yer area? like other bands that play shows together...cause I'd just get in on those. easiest way to make friends, learn other musicians and there style along with gettin yer name out there. local shows with 3/4+bands is what I've always done.

You've got to be creative. When I started out we would organize our own non-paying gigs at schools and outdoor events. We'd ask if we could be the entertainment for already established events or we'd create our own event just for us and maybe another band. Eventually people hear about you and want to hire you for parties...for money! And keep your eyes open for band contests that radio stations and clubs organize.

Re: Where should I play??

In the early days of my drumming, I started in the basement, Garages, then Colleges, Band Shells in the parks, Studios, Attics, Phrap houses in colleges . Finally after getting married, the top floor apartment where I built a stage for my son. And that's where we play now.

But always kept the drums in dry and keeping them in drum cases, not just throwing them into a car or van to prevent damages and scratches. I like to keep my kit in good shape. And never trusted someone else to handle them.

Letting some else play them Yes, but always inspecting them after. Making sure that all the hardware was tight.

What I'm trying to say here is that you can play your drums anywhere when needed, but at the same time monitor and upkeep them afterwords.

Ambiance is an important factor whether for playing or storing your kit is important. If you have played them in a humid area, make sure that the kit is dry before storing them.

Thanks Tainojim.
Thats really helpful.
But I've found a place to play. (possibly)
It's a coney Island. (we know the owner there)
Do you guys think that would be a reasonable place to play? (Remember, im 12)

Re: Where should I play??

There are 4 Angelo's Coney Islands in Michigan, which one? I know the original Coney Island here in Brooklyn New York and it's right by the ocean. Salt water air is not good for anything, causes allot of corrosion.

I used to go to Fairlane Michigan for the Ford Motor Company Electronics Division, seminars every other year when I was back in the days, working for them here in NY. I've got 6 certificates from the company and they look good on the resume. They kept us at the Ritz Hotel and I hated staying there. I had to go across the road to the mall to aford something to eat. Not my caliper of living if you get my meaning.
