Drumaholics

Mortimer introduced himself as a "recovering drumaholic." I can see the truth in that label. I have obsessed about drumming. It has sucked up a lot of my money over the years and it has contributed to relationship problems now and then.

What do you think? Are you a drumaholic? Is drumming a disease? Are you an active drumaholic or in recovery? What are the tell-tale signs of being a drumaholic?

This is going to be a fun thread! I am a drumaholic for sure. It has "contributed to relationship problems" for me in the sense that my drumming in bands has attracted some "fatal attraction" types of women in my past.

One of the ways you know you are an addict is if unconciously you drum on what ever is in front of you while the radio is on (steering wheel, legs etc.).

definately a drumaholic.
ive only been playing for about 2 years, but i find myself always tapping on something or tapping my feet doing double bass rolls and everything. its got in the way of some relationships, but you cant change who you are. drumming is something that is and always will be a part of me.

Drumaholic. Been driving everyone mad tapping on anything and everything from school days on. Two of my three sons think I'm mad but one wants to do it all. (He loves the Purdie shuffle on my knees!)He's eight years old and on the way. I agree with Der Trommler re "fatal attraction" types and ill effects this can have on relationships. Money spent on gear and travelling have also been a sore point in the past. But guess what. TOUGH. In my view, Tyler is right in saying you can't change who you are. ROCK ON.

You know you're a drumaholic when you can't leave a drum shop without buying a pair of sticks, even though you've already got 10 pairs at home.

You know you're a drumaholic when the feel of a drum head excites you about as much as the feel of a person's skin.

You know you're an addict when the doctor tells you you have RSI/carpal tunnel/tennis elbow/whatever and it never even crosses your mind to take the advice that you stop drumming for a few days.

You know you're an addict when your slim, sexy, redhead woman is horny as hell, but you've had a beat stuck in your head all day and practice instead of pleasing your woman.

Dear lord I have to sort my life out...

Recovery tool. Repeat these words when you feel stressed out:

Grant me the serenity to accept the beats I cannot change,
Courage to change the beats I can,
and wisdom to know the difference.

You know your a drumaholic when your constantly tapping and your friends ask you if your paying attention to them speak.

You know your a drumaholic when the you get super-excited talking drums and hardware.

I reckon you know you're a drumaholic when you want everything in the world to be in time. I know I do.
And when you don't care that you've got massive bruises on your thighs/knees from hitting them with drumsticks, because it made you think of a cool groove. . .
