Hey I E I would go for the Ludwig first then the Pulse if you can't get the Ludwig, the Pulse isn't a bad set at all. I know several people with a Pulse set and after tuning them they sound pretty good if you can put new heads on. they'll sound even better. And the cymbals on the Pulse set aren't as bad as some might say, I ve been playing a long time and they're not bad at all. GOOD LUCK SLINGERLAND

Try them both the one that you like the most is the one you should buy.

Re: Pulse 5- piece or ludwig?

Why only those two choices? If you search this forum using the search term "Pulse" you'll see all kinds of information about new and used kits in the $500 range (just skip all the search results related to pulse, as in timing).

The one recommendation I see coming up time and time again is the Pearl Export drums -- many models on the used market via Craigslist for example. They sound good and are well built. Someone wrote that they last forever. They would be used because Pearl makes the Vision series now, but they'd be a great choice.

My worry about Pulse drums is that when you eventually want to trade up to a more professional kit some day they wouldn't be as easy to sell. But by then you might just want to do a good deed and donate them to some needy beginner!

Re: Pulse 5- piece or ludwig?

Yeah ur right.
But those where the first ones that I saw that were in my budget range.
If you could find a different brand in that range that would be awesome!
I'm looking for a good quality one too.
I'm keeping the cymbals, a tom drum, and the tom cymbal stand attachment from my old kit.
So if I get a five piece it would be a 6 piece thanx!

I think that this drum set would be on my list. Check it out!Buy Pulse Pro 5-Piece Drum Set with Cymbals and Black Hardware | Complete Drum Sets | Starter Drum Sets | Musician's Friend Click on buy. IDK why the rest of the link doesn't work.

Thumbs up Re: Pulse 5- piece or ludwig?

In 2005 I ordered a Pulse 5 piece lacquer charcoal black set. I was really dark grey I don't know why they called in black but that set was one of the toughest sets I have owned. I hear Ludwig is great but pulse Is killer deal for the money. I rarely had to tune them. The bass drum is a standard 22" but It seemed to have a really deep sound. Great for rock and metal. This kit came with a wood snare as well, very nice one at that.

I have a Ludwig cs combo drumset it came with cymbals but only two 14in hi-hats and a crash ride but if you change the heads and tune it right it sounds fine the only problem I've had is the snare doesn't always wanna go on and off put most of the time u won't need to turn the snare off anyway
