Re: the economy

Yes this economy is not only affecting all of us but the bottom line is that if you can't find a job, then create one.
There are lots of people with money that have made bad investments.

There are some folks that are not even willing to get their hands dirty on farming or even flip burgers at a burger joint (not the type you smoke). I know if that if legalizing, cannabis for example, would destroy the pharmaceutical industry. Mean while hemp is used for making those big strong ropes to tie up the big ships to ports.
I the Netherlands even clothing is made of hemp and lasts a longer time than the cotton clothing made mixed with polyurethane that feels like your wearing plastic clothing.

You can't even find anything make in the USA today because the materials are shipped to other countries for cheap labor and crappy products. And the ones paying for it is us with our tax dollars.

Technology is making the U.S citizens lazy. The don't want to farm or harvest for food. Millinery stores don't exist anymore because women don't know how to sew.

Even at one time the big industrial companies used to supply the with the teachers and work shops so by the time you were 12 years of age, you already knew what you wanted to be in the future.

When I was 11 years of age , I shined shoes while on vacation in the west coast and came home with $500 and a new wallet. That's how I got my first set of Ludwig drum set.

Creativity will get you work. For one thing I have worked on both the Union and Management side of my job.
Common sense in preparing your resume helps.
A friend of mine from the Vietnam war told me that K.I.S.S. (Keep it Simple stupid) usually works well when writing a resume and sticking to the objective for the position of what the employer wants to here, usually gets you the job.
These guidelines has always gotten me work even if it takes months to get a response.
Internet web searches such as Monster.com, USA Jobs.com, Headhunters.com and others, like news paper classifieds, is like a lottery.

I even got work such as gardening, even though I have 12 certificates in Electronics Engineering with a Stationary Engineers License.

Studying is the back bone of life.

But the biggest mistake was when the free world market was established by the U.S. government.
That's what got this great country of ours in the big hole.

Big companies even got the smaller sub contractors replacing union workers, even though it's technically against the law, get away with it and they don't do as good a job as union workers whom have been trained for specific jobs.

I feel for you and may other millions of people who lost their jobs. Just try to be creative and starts something new for then you'll be able to keep a roof over your head and food on the table.

I forgot to mention that according to a Dan Rather report I viewed a few weeks ago, the jobs are located a places where manufacturing and assembly line is where the jobs are currently located.
Pennsylvania is commonly known for that.

I'm 58 and I have always tried to encourage my sons to study other majors in college, so as to have something else to fall back on in case their major didn't work for them.

As for me, drumming was a hobby, had allot of fun doing it and still do, but not a major way to work to bring home the beacon.

Re: the economy

When I was your age, now don't laugh because it was many moons ago. I started washing windows for the elderly people. My reputation for doing a good job was past on from one old person to another. Before I knew it, I had allot of customers.

You seem to have a good head on your shoulders. I live in New York City but for some reason people see NYC as the Island of Manhattan where the tall skyscrapers are, and forget about the other 4 boroughs like Staten Island, Queens, Bronx (the Bronx) and where I'm at, Brooklyn the old home of the Dodgers (the Brooklyn Bums) an old slang.

Population in Brooklyn 4.8 million.

There's work to be found all over this great country of ours.

Just be creative, you'll find something. Maybe not in a music store. Just study the best you can, stay in school, and the best man you can.

Well you know what they say about the weather in New York

If you don't like the weather, just wait five minutes.

Global warming.
