What do you guys think?
Does RockBand (you know, the game?) help
a persons drumming skills?
I think it does because the cordination.

I think it does, I find it a good warm-up before I go drum. Also, it's fun removing the drum tracks, then playing over them - really cool.

Also this may sound weird, but I've learned quite alot of songs because of rock band, just simply using the charts then changing it to a real kit, by determining it by ear

no. i hate drums on rockband...btu according to the devs if you play a song on med you can play on an actual set. I haven't played on the new kit but the original with 4 pads n bass i hate. it does help ppl with timing but yea...when i play a song i'm used to being at an actual set with cymbals lol and i know where a tom will be...not really with the rockband pads :P

I vote no. I think if you can already play drums, the rockband setup is actually more frustrating as the drums are not in the right place or proportion.

As for a person playing the game then sitting behind a kit and sounding good--rubbish. Perfect practice makes perfect. The only way you can sound good on a kit is to play one with proper technique and you can't get that from a game. Most of the kids I see playing it don't even hold the sticks right, have no clue about things like Moeller technique, dynamics, etc. that you can only get by being exposed to musicians and other drummers who share info etc. (like this forum)...

I bet I am 50X faster in a drum roll than any rockband trained drummer....

i completely agree with don. it is frustrating if youve been playing drums for a long time, and the timing in the bass pedal is usually frustratingly off too.

but if youd never played a drum kit, you could develope some rhythm from it.

I vote yeah because it helps develop reflexes a little. It also helps you associate a specific sound with a specific device. Works well for beginners but not for experienced players.

Of course, Rock and Roll from the 50's is what paved the way allot of drummers do today.

Now the 20's also get allot of credit for paving the ways the 50's was played.

Like a dominoes effect.

The variations from one era to another have been past on for generations, and that includes Rock Solid Roll.
