Thanks! I actually wanted the gig and I'm not really sure why people would show up unprepared if they wanted the gig too--maybe they didn't want it-- I don't know.
But to answer your question I wrote them out specifically for the purpose of proving that I could do it to this act--as a matter of professionalism--and I think it payed off. The 6 songs I had to learn (in 2 days) weren't real hard, but a couple had some breaks and some kick/bass line stuff that if I missed it would be apparent, so I also wanted reference material on hand to make sure I nailed 'em.
It was better than one of the bass players showing up with a 6-pack already in him and a bottle of Jack in the back of his amp (seriously!) and having no clue what he was supposed to play--yeah they ushered him out quick... It made for some fun conversation afterward with the guys though.... lol
