Passed an audition got the gig...

Hey all just wanted to share in a victory here in Colorado. I auditioned for a up-and-coming Country Rock act (Along the lines of Jason Aldean) and made it through the first set of auditions. I got called back to sit in last night with the prospective band and the producer to check the fit... Two of the prospective guys washed out--they were unprepared without charts etc, and I was asked to stick around while they loaded their gear out (I had charted everything and rehearsed at home so was totally on it)...

The act leader, Bryan Cowsert, and his producer asked if I liked the fit and if I was interested in being a part of the act... Hell YEAH!!

Anyway, had to share this! Thanks to the drumming community here for giving me a place to read about others experiences and to assist where I can... I'm sure it's made me a better drummer!

~Cheers to all!

Congratulations. Sounds like you took the audition process very seriously, like a true professional. Did you write up charts because the tunes are complicated (lots of stops and starts or accent shots) or because there were too many songs to learn so quickly?

Thanks! I actually wanted the gig and I'm not really sure why people would show up unprepared if they wanted the gig too--maybe they didn't want it-- I don't know.

But to answer your question I wrote them out specifically for the purpose of proving that I could do it to this act--as a matter of professionalism--and I think it payed off. The 6 songs I had to learn (in 2 days) weren't real hard, but a couple had some breaks and some kick/bass line stuff that if I missed it would be apparent, so I also wanted reference material on hand to make sure I nailed 'em.

It was better than one of the bass players showing up with a 6-pack already in him and a bottle of Jack in the back of his amp (seriously!) and having no clue what he was supposed to play--yeah they ushered him out quick... It made for some fun conversation afterward with the guys though.... lol

No recorded material that I can share with you guys yet, but here's a Jason Aldean clip that represents the style we're going for....
