Welcome Mr. L, sorry I did not see the movie Devil wears Prada. But I'm sure that if you hang in there, someone may have some really good answers for you. In the meantime browse around.

This is a good forum and happy drumming.

Re: Lots of Questions sorry

Is this sort of music where a runway is involved, or is it like techno stuff? Maybe looking it up on YouTube might help.

Is it this type your talking about? If it is then the X-Gen of drummers on the forum can help you out. What type kit do you have? This is heavy metal stuff. DW drums can give you this sound. So check out YouTube and see what kind of drumms are used on the videos. Hope this is helpful. Or get the bands names, look for the the drummers names and seek out what type drum kits they use. Now do your home work and good luck on your venture.

Re: Lots of Questions sorry

mkay. so i play probably the style your looking for. if your gonna sing id make it a little easier. if your leaning more towards trance or wanna make it eaier on yourself check out enter shikari. their drummer is a prime example. he plays way under his skill level but it works with the song and sounds great. blast beats....haha. you play that **** if you can do anything else. dont beat your snare to death. it sounds gay. i would suggest working on lots of double bass combinations. and if you want a sharp snare like them tune it tight and rimshot on every snare hit. i do it and it sounds amazing. i wouldnt recomend rim shots on all your toms though...some people do it but...its iffy IMO. i hope i covered everything. hit me back if you need more help.

hey dude. thats awesome. i play some of that style, but more like bring me the horizon type.
but as far as writing beats and what not, just use some dynamic double bass playing and keep it fairly simple for most the song, but throw some parts in like blasting and double stroke rolls. as far as blasting goes, check out the videos on youtube by spikeydrummer. theyre pretty good.
hope it helped.

Re: Lots of Questions sorry

well tdwp's drummer plays with alot of tom beats mixed with double bass, so if you wanna sound like him then do something similar. if you are gonna sing too then you need either crazy good concentration or to play some easier stuff, cuz i know i wouldnt be able to play stuff like the devil wears prada and sing at the same time. if you can thats awesome though!

anyway, you wanna do blast beats huh? i might be going off your mention of tdwp a bit too much, and dont be afraid to be original, but their beats arent really blast beats. i think it would sound cool if you could combine blast beats with the kind of beats tdwp does.

me i have my own style thats kind of a mix between tool, underoath, saosin, and maybe a bit of drop dead gorgeous. like i said i could never sing while playing, id like to know if you ever get it down. good luck

check these pages out:

YouTube - Spikeydrummer's Channel

YouTube - austin29803's Channel

They give the best lessons, that I have found.

Austin says in a video screaming shouldn't happen because you want to be in a band. And then again you could do clean vocals...

Check out the band Jacobi Witchita their drummer sings and they are hardcoreish.
