mic and triggered???

mkay. so im sure triggers are a massive argument on here so, lets just not discuss the use of triggers but how to make this work. i never though of using triggers until my guitarist ask for stragiht 32nd notes through long sections. its do able but very uneven an i want it to be clean live. but my issue is i dont wanna lose the acoustics of my drums. i dont want digital sound. i have a full sure mic kit and i was wondering if anyone else has heard of someone running the mics into a program then using the triggers to hold the volume level steady? i havent looked too much into it, but im at a loss as to where i should look and im not into buying expensive programs that arent what i need. im sure someone has tried it. it should sound almost like a gate though a little better. any ideas would be appreciated.

**EDIT**
i think i solved it. its just gonna be expensive. in case anyone else was wondering ima mix it 60% mic and 40% trigger. then ill have the module and a mixer next to me so that i can control the mix and change it for other songs and sections.

Re: mic and triggered???

The simplest solution is simply to work on the part so you can play it without the assistance of quantization or volume enhancements.

The other way is to sample the drum's natural sound, then use the triggers to play it back.

Re: mic and triggered???

i really have no problems playing most the parts. even if i stumble through it, only i notice. i like the idea of the mix cause you can adjust it to almost any sound you want. plus im about to run my kick drum to a 800watt horn sub. the slightest mistake would be very obvious. also were trance metal so funky sounds will go great in some spots. im just anal about organization so ima have my own 10 input mixer and the triggers and mics all run into it so i can balance myself and save space on the master mixer. all in all it should be exactly what i want the old and new styles pulled together.

Fair enough. Keep in mind though that (generally speaking) you dont really have control over what the crowd is going to hear from the front, and sometimes all the organisation in the world can still lead you to issues onstage with sound - That, and often the guy working sound will provide his own take on the best way to get around your problem.
