Re: is anyone in a band ?

I dig the tunes, Chez. Good stuff. Very trancy, but not TOO trancy, you know? I'm in a band called Brickshy. We're recording our first EP this summer. Check us out here. Brickshy on MySpace Music - Free Streaming MP3s, Pictures & Music DownloadsWe tried on many different named hats before picking one. It kind of just happened when we were tired of thinking too hard. Our lead singer's dad referred to a client as being "One brick shy of a load."

I saw a custom decal on a car's rear windsheild that said "Gemini Hustler" on it. How's that work for ya? Maybe Chuck Chuck Bo Buck and the Banana-fana Five...

UVA huh... you into screen printing? Or just a fan of the sun?

hey dude, thanks for checking the stuff out (not sure if you checked out my personal material or the Purple i stuff...im assuming my own stuff). It's really appreciated and I completely understand the comment. I'm sort of aiming my material at electro/techno sort of crowd, which is why its like that lol. I checked out your stuff...really tight band, keep up the good work. the sound quality on that site is very well done...was that done at a studio (just curious cause you mention reocrding your first EP this summer)?

Re: is anyone in a band ?

I checked out both actually. I really like the fill between the snare and hats at the end of the B section on "Hello, let's dance," by the way. Your drum grooves actually remind me a lot of Mike D from the Beastie Boys. Seriously. You should check out there instrumental tracks if you haven't heard them. Some of your grooves sound straight off "The In Sounds from Way Out." And that's a compliment.

Yeah those 4 tracks are off of our demo. I was a music techonolgy major in college so I asked my ex-professor if he could hook us up with a good student to record there at the university. Turns out, he wanted to do it himself. So we were lucky enough to work with a pro engineer with pro gear for our demo. And he cut us a sweet deal. We're really excited to get back in the studio because he has even better gear now and we've got 7 more songs to use it on. Sweeeet.

That means a lot to me dude...thanks. Ill definitely pick up that beastie album now

Best of luck recording your ep, and to your band in the future...keep pushing, you guys are talented. Scout for a good producer (if you dont know one already)...majority i worked with are money hungry uneducated assholes(here anyhow). Make sure they can record the way you guys want and expect.

Hey phil I really like brickshy's music!

Sounds great.

Who made your myspace? It looks really nice and I'm working on one for my band right now and it's super hard to do.

Re: is anyone in a band ?

Hey thanks. I'm glad you like it. I'll make you a deal, add us on myspace and/or facebook and I'll tell you who did our myspace page. Haha. Actually, we are lucky enough to have a bassist whose girlfriend is quite talented with that shtuff. I know what you mean about it being a pain though. I frustratingly designed our first 3-4 drafts before she took over. She's a god-send.

Thanks for the advice Chez. We are actually approaching the producing side with the idea of knowing what we want, and ask for the opinions of the engineer. If he's really good at getting a certain sound, that will sound better than him forcing something else. You know? I used to engineer in college and found it easier when bands said, "We would like it to sound similar to this, but not exactly, what do you think?" That way I could give them a few options and examples. Both sides win and no one is there to push anybody around and then take your money for it. Hah. And we are recording and editing with my old engineering professor, who has some great advice. So we are "producing ourselves." Kinda. But we won't stand for assholes! Fight the power!

Re: is anyone in a band ?

good to hear, glad you know the do's and dont's...it took me 3 different album recordings/sessions with 3 different producers to figure that all out. by the way, ill send an invite for myspace. I just made a facebook account (still learning how to use it), but if you find me "Chez Marrone" add me.

peace...and when the EP's done, let me know via myspace so i can listen =)

I hear you man I am in a newly formed grindcore band named Mutts & Bloody Guts, Lol its the guitarists choice hahahaha, Also I have my own pot induced grind band named Mota Grinder, I also like the name Utensils Of Terror for a future Carcass style project. Heres a few names for some heavier bands. Some of these are silly but its awesome to have a crazy band name if it fits the style of music you play. But who knows maybe there will be a few on the list that sound cool for a metal cover band hahahaha

Surgical Failure
The Bearded Clam Exposition
Beneath The Black Sky
Acid Rain Eats Our Flesh
Chuck's Anal Hammer
Solektra
Brown Bag Special
Abyss Of Screams

Thats all I have for now....come back in 15 minutes! lol

Re: is anyone in a band ?

I just got a new group started. As already mentioned here several times, it was tough to settle on a name, but I think we found one that suits our style and personalities: The Gentleman and a Scholar. we are currently recording 5 tracks and should be done with them by the end of the summer. I will keep you all posted if anyone is interested.

Re: is anyone in a band ?

^^ Thats pretty cool man!
Just make sure that name is creative and
really describes your band. Which it looks like it does.
Just look on Itunes and see if that name isn't taken.
That happened to me multiple times.
Can you get some tracks on here?
That would be pretty sweet.
I'd love to hear you guys play.
Good Luck and Happy Drumming!
