Here is a great deal in central MI:

Mapex Drum Set

How much are you wanting to spend, and is a good used kit ok?

If you plan on playing and want to buy a kit just once (meaning you want one of the best you will never need to replace) here is a smoking deal on a practically new Sonor 3007. This is the top of the line in force series. Tha catch is it has no hardware or cymbals:

7 Piece Maple Drum Set

Here is a nice middle of the line Tama, I would call and ask some questions, but this is a bargain also. (the Tama Rockstar was replaced by the Tama Superstar)

When it comes to getting your first kit, there are a few factors to consider. How serious are you about playing drums? What type of music are you going to play. What are you looking for in a kit. Does it fit your budget, if not wait and save your money to get something better. If you plan on keeping these puppies for a long time, get something good and keep away from package deals.

Purchasing drums is a huge investment. Don't end up buying something you may regret later. You also need to consider that cymbals are pricey too.

Go to the drum shops and try them out before deciding on a kit.

What brand kit are you practicing on? If you like it, maybe you already what you want.
After trying out some kits, you may be able to find what you like on EBay or Craigs list.
We can't do that type of research for you, only you can.
If it's a cheap kit your looking for just to bang around, then get one of those packages. But if you are really serious about drumming, then you know what you need to do.

Am I right Mr. Der?

Spot on Jim!

In the current economic state and beings he is in Michigan, AAM has a great opportunity to come across a very good quality set with cymbals and hardware for dirt cheap prices.

We got hit really hard here to in NYC with the economics. I had to shut down the children drum supply here. It's a big disappointment but at times I let them play on my huge Gretsch kit to practice, but that's all fading away.

Too cold for me in Michigan, I don't miss going to those Ford seminars any more. I have tropical blood cells. NYC gets cold enough. My brother is moving back to Buffalo, I'm giving him a shovel as a going away present. I don't envy him at all.
