Re: throne position?

The position of your throne is usually what ever your comfortable with, i would just keep adjusting it until it feels right.

Re: throne position?

If it's a burning sensation then maybe you're sitting too low - I have my thigh at a slight angle (maybe 25 degrees) downwards, and you can get a lot more power alot easier than if you sit low.

Make sure your legs are parallel or almost parallel to your body.
It should take weight off of your thighs giving you more speed.
I tried it and it turned out great.

Drum Key, that would be the opposite. If your throne is too high, there is a nerve in the back of the leg connected to the sciatica nerve and putting pressure in that area causes that burning pain sensation. Also if the throne is hard, it will cause that. Get a good throne, one that is ergonomically designed. They are pricey, but their worth it.

Tainojim, that would be the opposite. When you sit with your legs angled further up, it is physically harder to lift your leg and foot. I want you to try sitting high, and play, then sit really low and play. I'm sure you'll feel the difference. Also changing the angle of your legs does not put more or less pressure on the back of your leg. You shouldn't be sitting on the back of your leg in the first place. I believe most people choose to sit on their 'buttock region'.

OK Sitting too high would apply pressure on the back of the leg were the sciatica nerve runs. That would cause a burning sensation on the back of the leg. Sitting at a 25 degree angle would cause you to slide forward and more tension the the back muscles to try to keep leveled. That's why there are pricey thrones designed that look like a huge a bicycle seat with a wide saddle look from the rear.
You get that same feel when you sit on a ledge with the legs dangling. Try it sometime. I'll guarantee you will get that burn feel after a while. It's pressure on the sciatica nerve on the back of your leg. Got to balance your but on the throne, is the bottom line here. Angle is not a proportion in the formula. It's the intellectual facts that count. I do however understand your synopsis. And we didn't even have to get collegiate about it.

Talking Re: throne position?

Hi All,

Sitting high (too) is a no-no.
In layman's terms, it throttels the bloodstream in your hammies.

Infero was wrong too, it's really hard to get your legs parallel to your body, you have to be damn flexible to achieve this ha-ha.
(Of course I know he meant perpendicular!)
Have a look at our idols!
Vinnie sits real low (too?)
Most sit with the thighs under a slight downward slope.
It also depends on the seat of the throne as Tainojim so rightfully remarked.
A hard edge on the front of your seat forces you to sit lower, a very comfortable saddle-style seat allows you to sit a bit higher.
It also differs when you play mostly heel up (like, me) or heel down.

Cheers and happy drumming,

Harry
