Recording is a fantastic feeling. Such a rush. I'm going out of town to the studio tomorrow to lay down drum tracks for my bands first full length album. It's probably the most excited I've ever been. But don't tell my wife that. haha.
I haven't gotten a chance to listen to your new stuff yet since I'm at work. But I will listen to it first chance I get at home. I'll make sure to let you know what I think both as a drummer and an audio engineer. I look forward to hearing it though since I liked your other stuff. Have you checked out "In Sounds from Way Out" by the Beastie Boys yet? |

Re: electro with live drums Now that gives me more incentive to get after my sons to finish the studio by mid summer. I've got to get some tracks played out before the fall season starts. |

It's so funny...the many times i've been in the studio to record a full length album, we end up just picking 4-5 songs for an EP. I guess the material might have always been sub-par lol. I hope everything works out for you guys.
The music is the same stuff you heard before...this topic was posted a while ago. as for that beastie's album, i listened to some samples....reminds me of another album i bought last year (newer than that one), same concept. I love the drumming, but find the sounds on the album (other than the drums) aren't diverse enough and give a feeling of repetitive nature. If that makes any sense. |

Re: electro with live drums Yeah we're doing 11 tracks. The stuff you heard on my myspace page is from our EP we cut last year. So we're adding 7 tracks to that and rerecording a few parts on the original stuff. We've already got an artist lined up for album art, with coresponding t-shirt and flyer designs too.
I know what you mean about the feeling that it's repetitive. But then again, everyone knows that's how jam sessions go. I'm pretty sure that's where every song on that album came from, a couple of bottles of brass monkey and the need for a warm up. Heh. I've jammed on the same piece for 30 minutes before. I was bored for 26 minutes of that. I'm guessing it's because I was the only guy in the group who was under 40 and didn't have a nice thick coating of bong residue around my brain. |

As for using the songs from your EP and combining them with newer material, just make sure everything is levelled and sounds similar. I've had that happen to me before...where i went in to a studio, recorded 4 tracks...went back a few months later, recorded 5 more tracks. After recording everything, discovered that instruments were at different levels/tones and gave an unbalanced feel. Or maybe i'm just over analytical lol.
As for Beasties, i knew it was a jam sessions cd. thats fine and dandy...but a lot of that material, eventhough it would sound great jamming with your buddies, isn't in my opinion good enough to be released as an ALBUM. when jamming with my buddies sometimes i go off on the same drum beat for 10-15 mins because its a blast and sounds great! But when i record those and play them back, even if the quality is great and has a good beat/riff...isn't something i would put my name on & sell. Thats what i call 'milking it' lol. Especially an established, rich and successful, band like Beastie Boys. But some of my fav bands have released similar "albums" that i consider garbage or lackluster. Doesn't mean it wasn't fun to play (for them). Doesn't mean it couldn't sound good with proper restructuring and thought...but it isn't album material imo. maybe thats just me, im careful what i put my name on. |

Re: electro with live drums This is true Mr. Chezm, I remember an LP I bought with Jimi Hendrix on side one and Otis Redding on side two. I guess they didn't have enough material to do a complete album back then. All in all it's a collector's item today. |

Re: electro with live drums chezm,
Hey for some reason the spammers are killing this thread. I am going to close it so it stops and put it under a different but similar title. |

Re: New Electro with Live Drums just wanted to let you guys know my full album is due really soon. ive spent the last 2 months writing, recording and producing this album. I received some positive feedback from the EP (this original post), but i'm getting even more attention with the small snippets i've released for this upcoming album.
I've been heavy at promoting the EP still, trying to push critics and mags to listen...i'm going full throttle with this album, which is called "Change".

Re: New Electro with Live Drums Chez,
Good stuff man, as with the others songs, I like the techno sound. Are you playing the synthesizer/keyboard as well as the drums on these tracks? | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
