Drum set recommendation

Greetings,
I have been playing the drums for about a year using a buddy's set. I want to now purchase my own. Can anyone recommend a decent set of drums that sound good but not too costly. Something under a grand.
Thanks
~Howard

We need more input to compute. For what type of drumming and music and so forth. Remember that we can only recommend and give you our preferences. The final decision of course would be your own.

Re: Drum set recommendation

I am into rock and want to learn some blues. My fav drummer is Bonzo from Zeppelin. I have not taken any lessons and have pretty much taught myself. I didnt think I had any musical talent at all until one day I was over a friends house and started toying around on his set. The next thing I knew we were jamming. I have money to spend but dont want to buy my "dream" set(Bonham's Ludwigs(i think)) just yet.

Re: Drum set recommendation

I know quite a few sets for someone like you.
Just tell me your Price range or preferred price and I'll get to work.
Cheers.

Re: Drum set recommendation

According to your likes, check out EBay or Craigslist unless your looking for a new kit. For the budget today you have to do lots of searching to make sure you get your moneys worth.
So get started with looking at some catalogs to get some specifications for your needs and do your homework. We can only recommend some brands and the rest is up to you.
Remember that buying a drum kit is an investment that you'll have for a long time. You should go to some drum shops and try out some kits, and don't be bashful about it. These shops do need your money and you get what you want when your ears do the judging, you'll know then exactly what you want. Then go online to match the prices with your budget. Don't just settle.

Here are some links I can suggest:

Re: Drum set recommendation

Like tainojim's advice, check ebay, that's where I got my set from, Musiciansdiscountwarehouse, is the dudes name, and I got my set for something like 300 dollars, or something like that, it was meant for rock, and heavy metal, But I would recomend putting some money into cymbals and hi-hats, if you're not double base.
