Re: Help choosing snare drum

Harry the last time I remembered me getting hammered before playing a snare. Does that count as a hammered snare? The last time I saw an Hammered Snare, it was doing a drum roll. After the roll, it just layed flat like sheet metal.

Infero little buddy, I tried hammering wood snares without nails, it just fell apart. I should have used some screws instead.

santiman12 who is guarding the drum shop? What it costs in custom fees and by the time you get what your looking for , what ever it is, you could hire some bandoleros to get your snare of your choosing.

Der, you're a patient man. Now we went from the simplicities to the complex evaluations of a snare. This thread should have been named, All about metals snares, because they all have been covered instead of just trying to help out in choosing a snare.

Now we all learned something out of this. That's cool, but the law of the land is that crap rolls down hill, and you waist your time trying to shovel it against the tide.

Either way it's always great to here form Harry. Cheers.

Talking Re: Help choosing snare drum

Hi TainoJ.

I think the threads are getting better and better!
There is a lot of hammering going on lately! We are hammering our cymbals, prior and post manufacturing, now we do the same with our drums, and then we are getting hammered before we take to the kit Ha-Ha.

I have to confess that once I was getting hammered prior to a gig, so I could not play!
Fortunately, I had a good old buddy with me, who was also a very competent drummer, so he played instead!
The weird thing is I am still trying to find an excuse for this occurance, to no avail. (because there isn't one ha-ha)

A while ago I had a go at the Black Panther, I liked it a lot, but I was surprised at the weight of them! They weigh a ton.

Cheers (Prosit ) and Happy Drumming.

Harry

Re: Help choosing snare drum

Any 6 1/2" x 14" snare with the right heads and tensioning will do that for you, but here are some suggestions to consider in no particular order:

Pork Pie Big Black Brass
Pearl Sensitone Phosphor-Bronze
Ludwig Black Magic
Ludwig Supra-Phonic
Tama Metalworks

Do a little research on the Gretsch steel snares:

Gretsch Snares

This one is my baby 5x14:

It will clear your sinuses.
