I haven't been here in well over a year as I was in the one year professional percussion program at the Atlanta Institute of Music, mostly trying to clean up stuff and get better. A couple of weeks ago I signed on with Zildjian and now exclusively endorse their drumsticks too. I am very happy with the arrangement. In a month or so I will be spending a lot of time doing gigs in Europe, not getting back before Christmas. It's an interesting time right now.
I was also drawn into the whole Smashing Pumpkins drum audition thing. I suddenly started seeing myself mentioned on SP sites (along with other drummers) as a possible replacement for Jimmy Chamberlain (which seemed stupid to me because of my relative lack of experience). I had never met anyone associated with them. Then about 4 months ago I got a call from a guy claiming to be with SPs production company, although none of that was entirely confirmed. Then I saw this same thing being discussed on the Mike Portnoy forum, where Billy Corgan apparently was interested in a brand new guy he could say he discovered and not butt heads with like he did with Chamberlain. Then there was supossedly a public audition that I knew nothing about, then a private audition that included Jon Dolyman, then another call from the same guy as before. Then I heard a high school kid was now playing with Billy Corgan. Then I just figured I was being used and walked away from the whole thing. But I guess if you're going to be used, then it's cool that the abuse is coming from a higher rung in the music business
This is something I did about a month ago and is to be used for a public television documentary about drum solos. I liked it fine.
But anyway, nice to see this forum is still up and running...and with some new people around.
