Re: Whos your favourite drummer?

This is one of the most relevant posts on a subject that I have ever seen posted. I DO NOT LIKE TO PUT OTHER DRUMMERS/MUSICIANS DOWN OUT OF HAND. I know what I like and what I don't like but to dismiss another's efforts which for all I know, is the best that they can do, just isn't in my character.

Having said that, these Gavin Harrison interview segments address the entire question posed at the beginning of our discussion on Jordi Jordissan (sp?). I for one, have gotten so much out of these segments with Gavin. His discussion on creativity at the set is exactly what I needed to hear as only very recently have I started to just sit at the drums and allow MY ideas to come out vs. just using exercise books to practice my technique.

Very timely post....................kudos and thanks!

Gavin is just one of those musicians that can't help but inspire us. There are soo many drummers out there..you know, the 2k b.p.m'rs that rely on speed and mechanical accuracy to promote their art. I realize that many 'new metal' styles of dare I say music, rely on blast beat drumming to get their point of angst across. I don't wanna come off a dissing these drummers because playing with the speed and accuracy demonstrated by drummers like Derek Roddy and the like all come at a price. = many hours of woodshedding!

I picked Gavin Harrison as one of my favorite drummers because of his tactile approach to the instrument. I was from the 'sometimes less is more' school of thought before I heard any of Mr. Harrison's philosophies.

This is one guy who could easily go many rounds with the JJs and Derek Roddys of the music biz..and that's cool! To have chops is great. But in and of itself it just proves you put the hours in to play fancy fast.

You Go Gavin!!!

Re: Whos your favourite drummer?

Gavin at times reminds me of Bill Stewart............not so much in anything in particular that he plays but just his feel and groove........at times............which is a great thing in my opinion. God, I must learn how to feel and groove like these cats. To me, that would be the epitome of the most fun one can have playing the drums.

Probably Tre Cool(Green Day). OK, I don't even like Green Day that much, I just like his drumming. Or Stewart Copeland or John Boham.

At this time it has to be Shannon Larkin. The dude can jam and is awesome to see live.
But all time Favorite is the late great John Bonham.

Well... Danny Carey, and.. (here it comes) Ringo Starr. Ringo just because I've been in a Beatles mood lately.
