So many greats, but I am a Gadd fan. Not a lot of flash, but great technique and groove. I also like Steve Smith and whether with the stones or his jazz group Charlie Watts for his simple yet very effective style.

The soundtrack recording is very professional but this solo kicks butt. You have mastered the double bass/hand patterns I'm trying to learn.

This cat can play! There are so many great great great players. It would just be ridiculous to pit yourself against some of these world class musicians. As Bill Stewart says, it all boils down to playing music.......just playing music. Be a musician who happens to play the drums (or guitar, or piano, etc.).

I couldn't agree more chung. I find it discouraging sometimes to watch solos on YouTube. But that's when I realize I'm comparing myself to the other drummers (especially the really young ones) and I'm judging myself harshly. I like your idea of remembering I'm a musician with something to contribute. And there's lots of room for all of us.
One thing that I have learned is...regardless of the drummer I always walk away with something. Some times it's a great new chop of some sort, but sometimes it's something not to do as well. Always learn....Always share your talent.
