Bass pedal dribble/bounce

Hi guys, I am new to Drumset Connect. I just got a set of Gretsch Renowned Maple and they sound great. I am using a DW7000 bass pedal. I am having a problem when I hit the bass drum the beater bounces. I tried adjusting the pedal, the heads to some extent, but it still dribbles or bounces when I don't want it to. I have been playing for a long time and at this point I don't want to change my technique which is heel up. Should I stick a felt pad on the head? Right now there is nothing on the head. Should I keep trying to adjust the heads? It is affecting my playing. Thanks. John.

Try getting a ported reso head. It'll usually take care of that instantly. A looser batter works too, as well as using a 2-ply head.

So you know a felt pad on the head will completly kill all of your attack, and it might not cure the bounce.

Re: Bass pedal dribble/bounce

Dude, I was setting up my kit for some recordings for the past two days.

I have a Gretsch USA Custom Maple kit with two bass drums. Funny that you mentioned this. I notices that my left bass pedal was doing the same thing. So I compared the pedal's tension with the right one.

I tightened the spring tension and it was not as bad. Also notice that the right drum was leveled. The left was not. So I adjust the front legs on the bass to get the drum leveled. No more problems. Seems like the heads have to be at a right angle (90 egress)as opposed to the kick beater at the full upright swing position.

Try it before spending you money. Also use a click pad on the beater head of the drum and stop beating your own head against the wall.

Perhaps loosen the reso head and lower the spring tension? I've never had that problem, but just my two cents.

Re: Bass pedal dribble/bounce

On the DW 7000, there is an adjustment on the top that displays +/- on the pivot, Center it.

And bring the lower spring to half way on the tension.

Make sure your drum is leveled. When attaching the pedal, turn the wheel first till it's tight and leveled. Then turn the "T" shaped handle to secure the pedal.

That should solve your problem.

I have the similar drum and pedal as yours.
