left hand dependent

hey guys, lately ive been trying to improve my doubles, and its going well, im gettin faster. however, i notice that when im not playing just straight doubles, RRLLRRLL, you know, my left hand lags. when i do play straight doubles, my left hand is just as fast as my right, and of course im right side dominant. so at the kit, if my left hand doubles dont immediately follow my right hand on doubles, they are too slow and i lag and lose time

have any of you guys experienced this? ive been trying to fix it for about a month now, and im not getting anywhere. ive tried doing only left hand doubles, i dunno what else to try. should i just keep trying what i am doing?

thanks for the help,
butter

o man that sucks man how did you do it? i bet you cant drum too comfortably now either huh? hope it heals quickly.

as for the pillow, yes, thats what ive been doing to improve my speed, but it isnt doing much for my left hand being dependent on my right.

once again, good luck with that collar bone.

Re: left hand dependent

thanks butter, unfortunately, i have to avoid drums for 2 months
i was in a soccer game, and a kid stole the ball.
i tryed to catch up to him, but someone else picked up my legs, i tripped, got air,
and landed on the turf wich is over concrete.
the bone broke and then i hit my head on it so it made the bone go deeper.
i didn't cry though, can't explain thAt.

Re: left hand dependent

whoa dude thats a pretty cool way to go down, with the head hit and all. good job not crying

and 2 months?!!?! after you got that beautiful brand new pearl, you have to go do something like break your collar bone, and not be hitting her... just messin with you, but maybe it'll go by fast (im aiming for optimism )

i'm seeing a bone surgen tommarow and he should be able to help.

Re: left hand dependent

that would be torchure to get a new cymbal and not be able to test it out. i hope your splash arrives soon, but i think i would rather it wait until i was healed if it were me

i hate to take attention away from your predicament, infero, but does anyone else have any advice for me?

Re: left hand dependent

I had the same problem many moons ago, if ya git ma drift.

So instead of starting with my right RRLLRRLL, I would start with my left LR-RL-LR-RL-LR and so on until I managed to discipline my left to the right. In the old days we called this MAMADADA. Start off slow and in time this method will work.

Then I would go back to RRLLRRLL, after some time I got it right. It's more mental than physical. Once you start the first beat it will come together.

Try it, it may work for you. It did for me. Good luck.
