I play right but I lead with my left

Is this, I guess normal? I'm right handed and when I started I lead with my right hand, but now for some reason I lead with my left in fills, and it's usually a drag, and when I start with my left I can't go around the kit very fast. I play crossed over but I'm wondering if anyone else does this - thanks

Also, it's seems the drag is taking over my double rudiments, when I ever I try doing a double stroke fast, or sometimes a paradiddle, I drag instead of two hits, is that normal?

You make it sound like a problem, but it's great to be able to lead with your less dominant hand, provided you hit the right number of strokes to make the fill-in work. The goal (my goal) is total independence among all limbs and an ability to play any pattern with any combination of limbs. Try moving your fill counterclockwise around the drums to gain speed -- i.e. start with your left hand on the floor tom on the right side.

I don't quite understand your comment about drags instead of double strokes. Do mean like ruffs, where you are playing two grace notes before a single stroke? Or are you buzzing some notes instead of making clean doubles? That just takes patient practice at a range of tempos, on a range of surfaces (pillows, rubber pads, drums), with a range of stick models (heavy fat ones to lighter slim ones).

Thanks alot slingerland, I guess it is a good thing lol, but for the drag thing, every time I do fills, instead of a straight (ooooooooooooo) i usually do (doooooooooooooo) d= drag o = hit I guess i have to practice using full two strokes for rudiments and stuff

But thanks for that I'll start practicing tommorow
