Drum logistics/touring question

I just got to talking with an old bandmate this evening, and the idea of a little "reunion" came up. The problem is that I live in MN, he lives in Athens, GA, and our guitarist lives in San Fran. Obviously if we wanted to get together for a weekend and play a gig for fun, Minneapolis would be the best for me since I've got all the drums to lug around and they just have a bass/guitar to deal with.

Assuming we seriously considered the idea of playing in Mpls, is it easy for them to find a sound system to play through for rent or something like that? What about if we played in either Athens or San Fran (or anywhere further than a reasonable drive from MN)? What options would a drummer have for getting a hold of a kit to play on? I could/would of course bring my own cymbals and probably my double pedal, but the thought of transporting/shipping/airline checking my drums hurts my brain.

Any help/ideas?

Re: Drum logistics/touring question

GONZ If your going to play a long distance away from home, after you find out where your going to play you should call a few music stores in that town or city and find out about RENTING a set of drums,Call before you leave home, you will probably need a deposit and they will probably take the cost of renting out of the deposit so you'll need to know how much of a deposit you'll need. As far as taking them on a plane your looking at BIG BUCKS I know someone who paid over $550.00 and that was for 1 way, so unless you have alot of money forget it and try renting. Think about it Renting is probably the way to go. Good Luck SLINGERLAND
