Drumming in the car

I keep a pair of sticks wedged in the passenger seat (I'm planning on making a proper stick holder somehow). When I'm at a stop light or in a traffic jam I pull out a stick and build up my left hand technique on the dashboard or cross-armed on my arm rest. How about you?

People probably think I'm nuts. But my licence plate is GR8DRUMR so they shouldn't be surprised.

Do they still sell that stuff that comes in an egg and is kind of like silly putty? It was billed as an instant practice pad. It works real well right on your steering wheel when you're sitting in traffic or whatever.

Re: Drumming in the car

Interesting, Gonz. I'll look the next time I'm in the toy store with the kids, although the dashboard of my Montana van is pretty good on its own. I can even get rimshots off the radio console.

As a stick holder I'm looking for one of those old waste paper baskets my grandmother had in her car that had a base of sandbag-like pouches. I'll just modify it so it's a bit taller, maybe with a cupholder that Tainojim suggests.
Rock on.

Here's a link to the Remo Putty Pad. I checked google and I guess they still make it. It was mid 90's when I used to do this so I wasn't sure that product still existed, and couldn't remember who even made it.

That's wild. I've never heard of that product. I thought you were talking about a toy. It would be perfect for my wife's car. She'd freak if I did anything to damage her dashboard. But I bet it wouldn't work in the freezing Canadian winters.

I actually have this stuff and it works great for late at night drumming. I don know though how it would stick in a car. I may try it and see what happens but i doubt it would work unless it is on a flat surface
