Is it or is it not?

I am currently fighting type 1 diabetes with all of my might. I suffer nerve damage and will have the pump installed 12/12/09. I know exercise is the key to fighting this disease and many other health related problems. I may have to have a pancreas transplant but not sure yet Is drumming exercise? I found a unique article. I do know that when i play for long periods i am beat and cant walk sometimes until i am fully rested because when i play with others i play my heart out. What are your thoughts? I can run and walk but not for long distance since the pressure of weight on my numb feet tingles my legs. Double bass movements gets my heart rate up and it is tolerable because i am not putting my full body weight on my feet

Re: Is it or is it not?

Sorry to hear about that hokie, I know its the ****s as I have a couple of friends that have been dealing with type 1 since they were kids (one of them is a pretty damned good drummer too). Take care of yourself however you can my friend.

No doubt in my mind that drumming can be an outstanding way to get and stay fit. When we practice hard for hours we sweat like demons, pounding water like it is going out of style, our heart rates are at or over exercise target rates and we move way more than someone just walking for a couple hours. The best part of our drumming workout is it is extremely low impact so we don't trash our bodies working out...definately a plus!

Re: Is it or is it not?

Thanks Der for the kind words. My biggest problem is that i was in denial for 2 years with this disease. I am 31 and had it for 4 years. I just have never had any type of health problem that did not just go away and doctors are dumbfounded and cant explain why i got it at a later age at 27. I did not take insulin for a while my biggest mistake as i did not know nerve damage is forever and not reversible due to glucose spikes better known as high blood sugar damages nerves when out of control like mine has been.

I sure in the world do not want to be disabled for this disease. I did not go to school and especially graduate school to get disability. My doctor has already mentioned this and i feel very offended and will not do it. It is good though i have family support but my goal is to work until i retire after serving 25 to 30 years at minimum. I am defiantly not a sorry arse but i just randomly pass out for hours which is not good and that's after taking all these freaking shots everyday 5-8 per day that is. Anyways maybe i will be the drummer from Def Leppard with one arm i am sure they can make me a custom kit I gotta joke about it.
