Well i actually play both but i have more passion for drums. There appears to always be to many guitar players and not enough bass and drummers in the different places i have lived. One good thing about being a drummer is you can be more selective on who you play with because so many people appear to be craving drummers.

I don't regret though playing guitar and bass in the past because it has given me a better understanding of drums and i feel that is a plus. Does anyone else play anything else? I don't play string instruments as much because i am more focused on becoming a great drummer. It was my first instrument of choice back in the teen years and I honestly started playing because i was an air drummer as a kid and use to beat pots and pans when i was a kid. The first time i saw Mitch Mitchell and other drummers play i knew that is were my heart was period.

I know a lot of theory on guitar and bass but i refuse to learn to much on the drums other than rudiments and work on weak areas. I feel to much knowledge can sometimes hurt or that is the case with me. I like playing what i hear in my head even if it takes forever to get it out on the kit on a particular song.

i understand what youre saying with the over education thing. creativity is all i need.
i started drums for the same reason as you, always tapping on stuff when i was little. i learned guitar first, but thats just because my dad plays, and i wanted to do whatever he did

i also play guitar and bagpipes... yes, bagpipes i can play bass, but thats cause i play guitar, you know how that is.
i want to get something called a moodswinger. apparently its some kind of electric violin sort of thing. i found it online i dunno. also sitar would be cool to learn.

im one of 3 drummers in my town (that i know of and are active) and all of us are in several bands. over the summer i jammed with 6 different groups. obviously not everybody who wants a drummer is serious, but theres a decent music scene here, so if im asked to play i give a chance. ive found two serious groups, so im in 2 bands now were in high demand

I wanted to play drums cause all my friends played guitar, i actually decided to play bass but they said it would take around 2 weeks for the bass to ship in (it was a starter pack), so i got very impatient and bought a drum set instead, although i am learning guitar now, i still would like to play bass so i can do a one man band lol
