Bass Practice Pads, need advice!

Hey, haven't started a thread before so sorry if this is in the wrong place or already been done or whatever but I have a practice snare pad on a snare stand and would like to get a bass practice pad to use with it. I have a bass pad from an old cheap (****ty) electronic kit which feels nothing at all like a bass drum, it's like hitting a brick wall, zero rebound.

So I've seen a few about on the internet; Pearl, Gibralter... etc, but would like to know which is the best, most realistic feeling one. I'm worried that I'm going to spend all my money on one and it will just feel as bad as the one i have now.

I use a Tama Iron Cobra double pedal so need one with enough space to fit that on and am NOT looking for an electric pad, just a practice pad.

Any advice on the best one to get and which ones to avoid will be much appreciated, thanks.

Kierann x

Why not go to a drum shop and try some out?

Hi SuperK;
Am I correct in guessing that you already have a drumset based on the picture on your site? If so, think about changing the bass drum batter head to a mesh head. Pearl, for one mkes a wide selection at a reasonable price. They are very easy to change, are silent, tunable, and have the same re-bound as your regular bass drum head. You can pound on it at 3:00AM and no body will know you are playing.

Very interesting product news upstroke; I have never heard of those skins. I solved the practice problem by makiing my own pads out of upturned wooden chairs and a piece of hard insulating foam. I agree, superK, it would be nice to have something with a more realistic feel to it.

slingerland59 had a good idea there with the homemade practice pads. You could probably find something in your house that serves as a good substitute. maybe a block of wood with a strip of bouncy foam or rubber would work. Saves money too
