There's a lot of science in bicycling. It's easy to hook someone up and generate all kinds of data about how fast they're pedalling, how much power they're generating, and resulting heart rates. You can use
pulse upon awakening to determine if you've been overtraining or undertraining, and workouts are designed to spend a specific amount of time at 50%, 60%, and on up to 200% of threshold power. That's how serious bicyclers improve their fitness.
It couldn't be that hard to hook up a drummer to record pedal and hand/arm speeds, strike forces, and heart rates. If enough drummers are dying of heart
attacks, someone ought to study it.
I know that for serious bikers, recovery time is important after a hard workout. The top bikers don't ride full tilt every day. Do drummers get appropriate recovery time after hard workouts? Do they carefully adjust the percentages of maximum effort they use to increase their fitness?
