Re: Frustrated!!

hey slingerland, Great idea. I'll look into that book. I am using the george stone "stick control" book right now. And some drum tabs. I guess my next problem would be tuning. I'm not really sure on this and how they should be tuned. The set sounds pretty good to me. BUT, I'm not sure if it is right. Also, which rudiments are the BEST for me to learn first?? I have NO problem restarting my practicing from scratch. I have played the guitar for a few years, But had trouble holding power cords, (Right hand went to sleep alot)( I'm a lefty) so I had to stop playing. SO, now its the drums.

Re: Frustrated!!

tredfern011 If the drums sound good to you don't worry about it your not playing pro right now so that's okay consider them tuned. As far as a book on stick control that's not a book to learn from when your a beginner, the book I mentioned was a beginner's book and will walk you through starting from what to start with. The best place to buy it from was the one site I mentioned you won't get it for less anywhere else. I'll help you out if you want my help I teach but at the moment I have alot of time on my hands I'm recovering from 2 surgeries from Roto cuff surgery and now awaiting a second carpal tunnel surgery so if you want to ask any ques. please feel free I have alot of time on my hands. Slingerland, anything you can help me with is a good thing. I am not quite sure where to start. I'll see if I can afford to get that book your talking about. Any practice exercises you might be able to share would be great. Again, just starting out I'm not sure where to go from here. tredfern011

Re: Frustrated!!

tredfern011 all your rudiments should be done slow until you feel comfortable and relaxed then you start to pick up speed, speed is not important in the beginning. You should be doing your rudiments on your pad that will help build your wrists and your hands. Make sure you have a pair of sticks that are comfortable with not too heavy or too light. One good thing to do is when your doing your Rudiments when your stick hits the pad SNAP THE STICK UP don't let it just stop each time the stick touches the pad snap the stick up. It seems hard at first but you won't be sorry you did it. The easiest rudiments are the ones to start with of course, you probably can find it in the book you have. Try this out and let me know what you think.

Re: Frustrated!!

Thanks slingerland, I really do thank you for wanting to help me out. I did find that book you mentioned, I'll pick it up. I used to watch Buddy Rich when I was young (In the 60's). I thought he was the coolest drummer I had ever seen. Who would of though that I'd be playing them now!! Thanks again for your help.
