Worried!

Ok, so finally we have 2 gigs lined up, they are on the 23rd and 29th of jan. I wouldnt be all that worried but both gigs have ended up with us as the only band of that genre playing, the first isnt going to be so bad, all the bands (so far) are all black metal bands, i love black metal, however, ill be playing in my death/extreme metal band, we will be the only ones that arent covered head to toe in corpse paint screaming about satan and wearing large amounts of leather with nails sticking out of them, that is not too bad, all im mainly worried about from that gig is respect, i dont want us to be pushed into a little dark corner getting the odd angry look.
the second gig is the one im really worried about. my college music tech class has organised an event at a local venue that is only for bands that come from my class/course (may include 1st year class aswell). Again we will be the only death metal band there, in the class we have a couple of DJs, some indie bands and one kind of punky/stoner band. the event is open to the public to come and watch, it is a popular venue, our teachers are also coming to watch, very scary stuff! i hope we arent the reason most of the crowd leaves as we will be nothing like any one else, our song titles and lyrical content may shock people not expecting to see us and the small crowd of followers we will have might put people off when the hair starts spinning.
and then after all that, monday we have to sit in our lesson with everyone that was there that played and took part and sitting down with our teachers reviewing the night. eek!

Re: Worried!

Nothing to be worried about. Let your music and talent speak for itself and put on a good show, that is all anyone can do.

Obviously there will be some that don't like your music, but that is the way it is with all genres. As long as you keep that in mind you won't be offended when the Olivia Newton John fans go for cotton candy and gum drops while you are playing. No worries right?

Be confident of your ability and your music and you will be surprised at the energy you get back from a hesitant audience.

Re: Worried!

dude what is there to be worried about i love extreme metal and play in a death metal/black metal band... the first show all extreme metal bands appreciate each other as long as you play well and you're heavy and brutal...and the second gig what better than to scare the hell outta a bunch of hip hoppers and indie rockers the expressions on their faces will be well worth it...and if your music teachers are desent they will understand the expression of music and not be little you because it is your expression even be it may not be someone elses and if they give you flack about it...well you're in an extreme metal band i imagine you can come up with something cunning to say!!! good luck and what's the name of your band ...you got a myspace!!!
