Constructive Criticism anyone? Okay, so I have been playing the drums for some 7 years now. Everyone I show my youtube videos to say that they are great, but this is because they are not like "us" drummers who know what good drumming sounds like. I know that I am not 'bad,' but I know I'm not the best, and I'm really trying to improve my skills. I really want drumming to take my somewhere in life. Well anyone, just watch some of my videos and please tell me (1) What should I work on? (2) Is my technique poor? (3) Do I have proper grip on my sticks? Feel free to tell me anything you see my doing wrong, or just a tip or two. Anything is greatly appreciated, some constructive criticism never hurts. Thank you all here at Drum Set Connect. btw I am 15 years old.

Re: Constructive Criticism anyone? I say challenge yourself a little bit more. I mean Soulja Boy and Kings of Leon. Try more metal. Ex. Metallica Megadeth Slipknot Lamb of God. Whether you enjoy the music or not. Getting these down will seperate you from many other drummers. Good work though keep it up. |

Re: Constructive Criticism anyone? It sounds like you have the basic fundamentals down pretty good. You need some jazz (or maybe even some lessons) under your belt to get your groove a little tighter and to get that hi hat moving. All and all, I think you have a very good start at being a decent drummer. |

Re: Constructive Criticism anyone? Yeah, I know I do. but it always seems that when the camera comes on, I become mister serious and try too hard. I always loose that smooth groove. I guess I'll just keep recording to get that out of the way. As for the hi-hat, I am actually in the process of teaching myself that now. =] |

Re: Constructive Criticism anyone? May I be so bold as to suggest some songs like:
"Red House" by Jimi Hendrix.
"Mustang Sally" by the Young Rascals.
"Aimless Lady" by Grand Funk.
When you get real goo with Double Bass, "One Way or Another" by Cactus.
Overall your drumming is pretty good. But if you like Jazz and Rock, go Mitch Mitchell where there is lots of jazz drumming in rock.
Also the Doobie Brothers but they do have two drummers in the band.
Lots of luck and keep up the good work. |

Nice control too. | Thanks. I'm not into rap either, I just like an upbeat song every once in a while. I strongly prefer a jazz, swing beat more than anything though. I'm looking around trying to find some tunes to jam to. If anyone knows any, please introduce me to new music! & Tainojim thank you so much for those suggestions. I will surely be practicing those. As along with a few Beatles songs. =] |

Re: Constructive Criticism anyone? Try any of the Eric Johnson off of the Ah Via Musicom album, or Joe Satriani off of the Surfing with the Alien album. Both have a jazz-rock kinda feel and the songs get up and go, so you won't get bored to tears playing them.
A few are very technical tunes, but are fun even to improvise on if they get a bit to quick for you. |

Re: Constructive Criticism anyone? first off, tell your bassist to drop his pick.
you have the fundamentals down. you need to challenge yourself more, though. play some metal or classic rock. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
