Drum set questions..

Howdy everyone, I’m new here

This is my first set, I’m looking to spend around $600.00 (I’d rather spend a little more money on a first set then spend a lot more money later on fixing up a cheap set) I’m into All Shall Perish, Animosity, Despised Icon, Necrophagist, that sort of stuff. I realize it takes many years of practice to get anywhere close to them but I’m wanting to start off on the right foot (hehe). In other words I don’t want to limit myself to the style of music I will be able to play and sound I will be able to get. Seemed to be a lot of very knowledgeable people on the forums so I thought I’d ask it here. Anyone’s help is appreciated, thanks a ton in advance.

By the way the set I have been looking at is a Pearl:

Pearl Sound Check 5-Piece Drum Set with Zildjian Cymbals

also:

ddrum Diablo Player 5-Piece Drum Set

Do you guys think I should start out with cymbals that they come with or replace them immediately?

Sorry about all the questions I just want to be sure before I invest $600.

Thanks.

**should have posted this in drum sets, sorry**

Hi, in my opinion, don t get a beginner's level kit if you really intend to continue and take it serious, starter kits don't last that long and later when you start gigging you may encounter servela problems. i think if you'd go for a 'vision' kit from pearl, or similar, (i have no intensiond of making any ads, i m using pearl as a comparing kit tha's all) you will have a good kit for a very long time and you can also do some decent recordings with it. later you mat go for a pro kit. basic cymbals that come with kit, well, i can say the same, they re good have something to hit on, that's all....he he, but, you can buy affordable, good sound cymbals, from zyldian, sabian and mainle....i m sure you ll find something affordable and that you can enoy for a long time.

Re: Drum set questions..

Hey thanks a lot for the quick reply.

So would you say that something like:

Pearl Vision VX925/C 5-Piece Drum Set with Free 10" Tom

would be a good one to get? $797.00

Or would you say a fusion set would be better to get considering they are the same price.

Thanks

I cant give an opinion about Pearl drums, but I will say a kit that comes with cymbals will be poor quality. Your best bet would be to look around for better stuff. You can also find good quality used cymbals on ebay that could save ya a ton of money.

The Pearl Vision is a great drumset for the money, but like Chris said, typically any drumset that comes with cymbals is going to have very low quality cymbals.

Thumbs up Re: Drum set questions..

Alright awesome.

Right now it looks like I'll probably go with the Pearl kit, and then I'll shop around on eBay for some used cymbals. I'll let you guys know what I get, and if I have any more questions (which I probably will).

Thanks a lot for all the help guys!

Re: Drum set questions..

Update:

Went down to the local music store today and bought a Pearl Vision VX925/C 5-Piece Drum Set with Free 10" Tom.

Right now I have no cymbals, but I was looking into getting some Sabians. AAX fast crash and ride? I don't really know which hi hat cymbals to get. They are all so expensive! I've been looking on eBay for some used ones and I've found a few good deals but still haven't bought any yet. Any input on these would be appreciated!

Thanksss.

Try and play the cymbals instore before you buy them to make they're what you're after.

Re: Drum set questions..

When I went in they had a Zildjian ZHT cymbal pack..it sounded okay.

It seems like it might be cheaper to buy higher quality used ones on eBay maybe? But then again I just started..

Definately, less money for more cymbal than buying new.

I think what skinslapper meant was this, say for instance you decide to buy a used Sabian AA Rock Crash from ebay. He is saying go down to a store and listen to a Sabian AA Rock Crash in order to generally know what it sounds like rather than shooting in the dark and hoping for the best.
