Cool I'm Looking For A New Set...

I was looking at getting an EKIT but for the same price can score a really sweet set. I have my eye on the Superstar Sk Hyper Drive 6 piece for $829.99 or so. I had a used TAMA rockstar I bought for $60 which was a steal no matter how old it was. It sounded great but its really beaten down. I am also going to get a brass piccolo snare or should I go with the firecracker. I'm am into a lot of thrash, death metal & grindcore type type stuff. I still have my b8 crashes I bought awhile back but recently I picked up a b8 pro ride which I am very impressed with. So does anyone have any kind of exp with the hyper drive or even the snares I am looking at? I of course have a super kick 2 for my old bass I will use & I heard good things about the evans g2's for my toms.

Thanks,

Jason

Sounds like a great choice. It's all about your likes and dislikes about sound. One thing I do know about hyperdrives is they have particularly shallow toms to give a short Tom sound. This is great provided you don't want any huge booms from your toms.

As for the snare, brass is great for that cutting thwack that gets through everything else on stage. I know a lot of metal drummers are going for "13 and even "12 snares to increase the highpitched power. Again it's all about preferance. If you can make something great with it then go for it.

Re: I'm Looking For A New Set...

im saving up for an SL superstar. theres very little difference, but ive played both the SK and the SL at guitar center, and they are awesome. it seems to be the only non-custom made kit that has both rack toms and a virgin bass drum. thats the main reason im going for it. the drums sound so much better with no holes in them.

Awesome guys. thanks. I am really looking forward to getting this set..I can maybe trade my other kit for cymbals for something. That would be cool. I was told about a few different snares that I am interested in for sure. Thanks for tax season hahaha.
