A nice way to practice the rolls around the toms is to use a single stroke pattern but change the pattern on the last tom to RLRR and then progress backwards around the drums (LRLR). You can do that back and forth ad nauseum. Like skinslapper said, you're locking in the muscle memory and eventually you only listen to or sing the sounds in your head and the sticks fly of their own accord.
