Advice/tips on my drumming video.

Hi everyone,

I'm new here and apart from my initial 'hello' post this is my first one. I recorded a short video of myself today and i thought i would post it up here so a few of you pro's, if you have time, can take a look and give me any constructive advice or criticism. I've been drumming for about 8-9 months so don't expect anything spectacular, i am still very much the novice drummer, but i'm enjoying learning so much!
I'm just doing some random beats so there's no pattern, i've edited out the really bad mistakes but left most of them in so please be patient with it, it's only 5 minutes long.
I've only ever taken one hour long lesson due to money and the rest of the tips i've got off of here and on youtube!

Here's the video, be gentle...

Thanks for looking,
Ben

Your arms get tired because your not using your wrists to do the work. Check out the "Moller Method".

YouTube - the moller method

Another thing is that rudiments are very important to master. Practice them at least for warm ups.

Your timing and tempo are good. Try playing to music, along with a song.

I know it's hard with today's economy to afford a good drumming teacher. But as the President says, "Do More With Less.

Overall, not bad for a beginner at all. Remember that practice makes perfect.

Good luck on your venture and Happy Drumming.

Bravo, benzsupra!

You sound exactly like I did in my first year of drummimng. That was sometime back before the sun was discovered.

You keep a good beat, you are attentive to rhythmic patterns and fills, and you obviously enjoy playing. You are on the drumming road.

In addition to Taino Jim's good advice, I was wondering if you could get a couple of half-hour lessons (you don't need hour-long lessons) playing on a practice pad while reading music. That would help you play more with your wrists and introduce you to lots of different beats. And it would give you another way to practice at home.

You're a drummer. Keep reaching out to try new things and learn new things. Stick with it, and next year's tape will show a different and better drummer, no doubt.
