You my friend are quite good at it from what I have heard. | Thank you I appreciate that and
am glad you enjoy my ideas. I also very
much agree with your opinion on that as I
have always tried to make them groove or just
sound good and not just wow someone from a technical standpoint.
That really never interested or made much sense to me. |

I am glad you enjoyed it and hopefully
it inspired you and maybe provided some thought

I wish people, including drummers, would keep things simple. The beauty of drumming is in the tonal quality, rhythms, and dynamics. We can all achieve that, not just a select few who claim to have unravelled hidden mysteries.
Drumming shouldn't be like lawyering, where legalese is used to mystify us, to keep distance between lawyers and nonlawyers.
I think the difference between drummers and nondrummers is that we hear rhythms in our head all the time and are obsessed with bringing them to life. The difference between good drummers and great drummers is maybe that the great ones have more tools in their toolbag so they can make the rhythms soar. |

Re: Insane Drumming with Seth Davis Seth,
In my opinion, we play drums in order to play songs and music. Your videos present insane speed, insane solos, moeller killing, and, obviously, your magnificently high skill level applied to drumming. I don't see the connections to songs and music, however. Nor did I ever hear one truly excellent groove in your videos, while I heard many today at a Simon Phillips Master Clinic.
Please make the connection between your moeller-killing and the effective playing of songs and music. |

I have used the statement " We make things much harder than they really are"
with students for years and years. What baffles me is what you stated, that they make something so simplistic out to be an unsolvable mystery. That goes to my next point. The most often question I get asked is.. I can play proficiently on a pad but when I go to move around the drumset my hands and technique fall apart, why is that? Why do I not have the body of a swimmer or gymnist is what I say among others.. It is not brain surgery. I just find it interesting yet comical that one cannot understand this. |

Re: Insane Drumming with Seth Davis Great demo display Seth. Some really pricey mics too.
Marshall, Ampeg & Fender amps, I've repaired some of them. Gretsch and Fender Guitars.
Was that a Hammond Baby B-3?
Really nice mixer. Not as huge as my son's.
If you ever come to NYC during your tour, stop by Electric Lady Recording Studios. West 8th street near 6th avenue.
You'll have a really great time there.
So when does the tour start? | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
