Egg crate foam sound proofing

I'm looking for the best pricing on the egg crate style foam for soundproofing/noise reduction. I've got my drums set up now in the basement in a small area that about 7x10, 3 of those walls are poured concrete. It's not necessarily to keep the sound from escaping but more for the echo and noise from all that concrete.

I've found this (click me)this (click me) and it's by far the most economical (a little over a dollar/square foot).

Any comments or suggestions? Thanks!

Re: Egg crate foam sound proofing

Hi,When I first startyed to play again about four years ago I spoke to a "Hi Fi" buff mate of mine and he said that the best and cheapest way of cutting down on echo and unwanted reverb was to line the room with the heavyist and thickest curtains you could find.Even better if you can hang them gathered as opposed to flat against the wall so that increases the area that is soaking up the sound.Have a cruise around any charity shops you have near you and see whats cheap. Hopefully I've made myself clear and it is of some help.
Cheers,
Clive.

For sound diffusion both of these ideas would work also try to bear in mind, you don't want a room that's too dead. A little boom back from the walls is a good thing.

That's not a bad price at all for the egg crate.

But I agree with Mr. Skinslapper. Deadening is not a good idea. All the sound would then sound too dampened.

The draping idea is also good. You can always move the drapes around to get the acoustics you're looking for.
