Question Avant Garde.

Okay, So i am a really experimental person and I like to turn broken and cracked cymbals into "Avant Garde" cymbals. I hammer them, drill holes, even hang rocks off them using rope; just so i can get that specific sound. I also (at one point or another) had sinks and pipes infesting my drum kit. Anyone else do the same or similar?

Hey Silver,

This reminds me of the time Pink Floyd made an album using only natural kitchen sounds. You are truly the Avante Garde king if you used the kitchen sink and cracked cymbals,.. more power to you man. Keep on playing out of the box! You simply cannot go wrong with an attitude like that!

Thanks man! I try to find beauty in everything, you know when you were a little kid and you'd bang on pots and pans? I do that. You know those street drummers drumming on buckets? I do that except with sinks and pipes.
I also create instruments.

Have you ever tried or done any of that? It's quite fun.

Hey Silver!

Sure I've done that. Maybe not to the extent you have but everytime I go camping I take my sticks and start beating rythyms on anything that will remotely resonate. Logs, coolers, cooksets etc. Last time I went drift boat camping up on the South Fork of the Snake River we took our bassist/vocalist with us. We had quite a nature concert,..too bad I didn't have a chance to record it. If I'm listening to music whilst doing the household chores, the stainless steel double kitchen sink makes a great mini tymbale/bongo. I think perhaps the majority of percussionists share a similar experience. We like to bang on stuff,..any stuff that will bang, we bang on it. Old antique farm implements are really bang fodder too!

OH YEA MAN!! ALL drummers will play on stuff. Funny story

I asked my band director if I could play the drumset for a few minutes. He said "ya sure as long as it's not that one" He pointed to the only drumset we have. So he went in his office and I got to work I took three chairs that because of the sixe sound different and set them infront of me like toms. Then took the metal bar from the music stand rack and placed it as high-hats. Finally The directors platform mad an excellent thump when you slmmed you rfoot on it. So i set everything around that and sat in a chair. Started playing and I thought he was gonna die from laughter SHOWED HIM!!!
