Re: Bass drum trigger going of on a snare hit.

HOW is that in ANY way too close? Every drummer in the world has it 6-8 inches away from the bassdrum, like me. It is very close to the toms but it's not touching it.

Peter wildoer is a very pro drummer. I have played on his kit a couple of times and he has the snare very close to the bassdrum, watch.

If I were to take a stab at your problem I would have to say the sensitivity of the trigger is set too high. Is it new, or have you used it for some time now and it just started doing this?

Re: Bass drum trigger going of on a snare hit.

It has always done this. I can tell you the sensetivity on the td-3 and the dm5

DM5:

I stops sensing the snare when the settings are

Velocity: 7
Gain: 50 or less
Noise: 99

TD-3

I stops sensing the snare when the settings are

Pad sense: 16
Threshhold: 13 or more

I CANT play fast double bass with such low sensitivity

I have tried to move the trigger around the bassdrum.

So when you play fast you actually hit the bass softer? Nothing wrong with that really, just have never heard of it before.

Well it might be time to invent something that will remove the resonance from the snare that is hitting the trigger. I would try some sort of thin dense foam (like memory foam) between the snare reso and the trigger somewhere (a sheild of sorts). Maybe also dampen the snare a bit?

I can tell you with expirience and knowlege that EVERY metaldrummer play softer when going faster. It's smaller and smaller muscles/movements so it's quite obvious.

So you actually think there's nothing wrong with the trigger? I mean, everybody else but me is just tapping on the bassdrum when the play fast and triggs.

There is a good possibility something is wrong with the trigger I would say.

Totally. It's seems to be picking up way too much. I would recomend taking it into your local store and trying it against some others to see the difference.

Also, love the recording btw. I can appreciate the discipline required for openhand drumming. Very impressive chops.

Personally for my triggering I use rolands free standing trigger as I don't want to be mucking around with the drum and brain sound at the same time. you could acheive this with a mesh batter head if you like, though it doesn't bother a lot of people.
