GC's 46th Anniversary Eye openers and other great deals.

Hey guys, i Recently got the GC monthly magazine in the mail.
Apparently it's GC's 46th anniversary, and I found some eye openers and other great deals inside I thought where worth sharing. (Like last year, I got there special Pearl kit which happens to be back for more)
Here they are---

EYE OPENERS--
1. DW 5000AX single chain?
-- yep, on the back of the issue, We've got a nice colorful picture of a DW 5000 single kick pedal. with 1 chain. I've seen this before when DW was in the middle of releasing the new 2000 and 3000 series hardware. defiantly worth a look.

2. 45th anniversary pearl kit back for the 46th.
-- my personal that I thought was only avaible for the 45th, is back. But instead of the 45th's walnut bust-to black- to walnut burst (front to back) It's walnut- to black.
kinda looks like the new E-pro live kit in terms of finishes. Not to mention it's $100 more than the “original” and comes with a FREE ELIMINATOR DOUBLE BASS PEDAL WITH CASE!! mail in of course.

Sabian SR2
Looks like sabian went eco-friendly. (?) Well, thats what it says in the caption. The catalogue only featured the 10’’ splash, so don’t know if there are different models. on the splash it says “Factory Renewed” , so I’m guessing Sabian got green with this one. Looks like natural finish, and you can see the lathe-lines. all for $70
10 pairs $10
You can get 10 pairs of Drummers Choice (ever heard of them?) sticks for $10. Actually $9.95, but whatever. Made of hickory. Pretty straight forward.

Some Great Deals: along with some price drops:

1. PDP starter kit
--PDP made a pretty nice starter kit that includes Sabian cymbals (nothing special of course like AA’s) hardware, and a nice chrome type finish and black drum hardware that makes it look a lot like the Pearl forum set. Not exactly sure of the series name, but it’s gotta be on the badges. $700

2. Another PDP offer
--The M5 maple set by PDP now will include a free brick of “3” brand sticks and a stick bag. I’m sure someones familiar with the 3 brand.

3. Rockstar Rebate
-- Apparently “the most popular kit ever” just got cheaper. Now, GC’s offering a $100 rebate with the purchase of this kit. Which is already $400, making it $300, or cheaper than dirt.

4. New 6 piece SP kit.
-- I like the way this looks, this 6 piece SP kit looks really nice in metallic blue. I first mistook it as a OCDP, believe it or not, they look really similar from the angle given. But, the SP features basswood shells. unlike OCDP’s frequently seen maple and other popular woods. 2 toms up, 2 down. standard. It’s a cheap shell pack, at $400.
5.NOW it’s OCDP
-- OCDP dished out a new set that looks pretty nice. Maybe the cheapest OCDP kit I’ve ever seen at $500. Shell pack as always. It’s called the Venice, with basswood shells. It also features 45 degree bearing edges, often seen in Gretsch kit’s.

6. New Yamaha Rock Tour 5piece.
-- This should have been in the eye openers, but I’m to lazy. This is an excellent shell pack. It also comes with a free $100 GC gift card with it’s purchase for there Anniversary. With True Mohagony shells, and Yamahas molding process that ensures every shell is round. (YESS system as they call it) All for $1300.

7. Gretsch Catalina set with a lot of Extras
-- This maple set comes with free 16’’ floor tom, A Nick Mason Percussion pack, and a $50 instant rebate. not to mention the beautiful lacquer finishes. This shell pack goes for $700.

8. Pork Pie free shirt
-- With the purchase of the Pork Pie “Big Black” snare, you get a limited edition “Big Black” T-shirt! (by mail)

9. New Tama B/B snare
-- GC “Exclusive” Tama snare drum, 6x14 and Bubinga/birch shell and a beautiful satin finish. for $300

10. Free 18’’ Crash!!!
-- After purchasing the Sabian AAX cymbal pack for $700. You get an included 18’’ AAX crash.

11. FREE HAT!
With the purchase of a Zildjian shirt you get a free ZILDJIAN hat!!!!

Thats about it folks. I hope I informed you about something interesting up there . Have fun, and keep rockin’.

Re: GC's 46th Anniversary Eye openers and other great deals.

Hey, Infero, nice post!

I just received the Musician's Friend magazine today. I was surprised by the new SR2's, they are incredibly cheap for B20 bronze! There are other sizes, almost all sizes, actually. I'll have to check them out in the store, but it seems like a pretty awesome idea. If the cymbals are still the quality they were before returning to Sabian, they are a steal.

The OCDP venice kit is pretty cool. It sounds pretty good, but I prefer the Avalon. Of course, the Venice is basswood and the Avalon is maple, so that's probably why. I wonder if OCDP makes a birch Avalon. I'd like to set that next to the Venice to see how they compare. Either way, though, there were reviews on MF saying both the kits were very susceptible to damage and cracking.

Also, I use 3 drumsticks brand. They are holding up really well for me. I actually like them better than Vic Firth! Only thing is, I have no idea why they sell sticks in 3's. I see the marketing value, but it doesn't make alot of sense. Sure, if you break a stick, the replacement to the pair will be a different weight, pitch, balance, etc. So with 3 in a pair you have a perfect replacement, but only until you break the next one... I honestly think that because the company is unique, it has become a successful brand, not because of the quality of the product (although, the quality IS pretty damn good). I wish they would sell sticks in 2 like everyone else, but I am going to try Vater good wood, anyway
