Thumbs down Double Pedal Problems

I've got a set of Pearl Powershifter double-pedals, and they were fine when I first bought them.

But recently, I've found that one of the pedals is a lot more responsive than the other. It has more recoil than the other, and will bounce for longer than the other if you dont put any pressure on both.

It's really nagging me, and I've tried everything, adjusting every possible thing I can think of and no-one seems to be able to help.

I'm hoping some of you guys can

If you want more details, I'll be happy to tell you

Thanks

Gene

My guess is that your "slave" pedal is the one that's giving you trouble? The problem is that the slave pedal will never be as responsive as the main pedal. The reason is simple, the slave has a lot more inertia to overcome, links and all that ads a lot of mass, and some friction. It's pure physics, and nothng one can do about it. IMHO, your pedal was probably allways like this, but now that you have used it for a while, you are much more sensitive to the subtleties, so now you notice it. I'm afraid every double pedal on the face of the earth has the same problem, as I said, it's physics. Unless there is a problem with the bearings (which is very, very rare!) I'm afraid that you will have to live with it.

Re: Double Pedal Problems

Your best bet is a gun oil called Militec1. Tetra-lube is good also. If you keep your pedals clean and lubed up, lag becomes less of a problem.

Goodfoot does have it right though, even the best slave pedal is going to have some lag.

Re: Double Pedal Problems

I have similar pedals (Pearl Eliminators). Make sure that your spring tension is set correctly (to your preference). The settings can loosen up with normal playing over time. It's always a good idea to check out your pedals every time you start to play. Often times (at least with my Pearl pedals), some of the hardware needs tightening. Remember that a rock-solid bass pedal is a happy bass pedal.
